This SSE had the best a/c I ever had until it lost its freon. Had one of the a/c components replaced at the dealer for around $300.00. This lasted six months. The dealer now says there are leaks in three of the components of the a/c system. Quoted $1400.00 to repair with new parts. The compressor is not one of the components. I asked how can a car that is only 10 years old could have an a/c system that is completely shot? Can't GM do better than that? He said "well, the car IS 10 years old". Just wondered if anyone else has had problems with a totalled a/c.

Evaporator coil, Condenser Coil, Receiver/Dryer are the other 3 major components with associated inter-connecting piping. Can they show you the leaks? Something here isn't right.

Your Bonneville AC isn't junk at all. I feel you have been put on
hard by unscrupulous service people. I do some AC work and am
familiar with the Pontiacs. I have had some estimates given on
vehicles and was outraged at what I was told. I already knew
what it needed and it was far short of what they wanted to do.
It should not take over thirty minutes to diagnose your problem
and pinpoint them to you. Insist on being shown where there
are any leaks.
Take your car to a reputable independent shop and have another
estimate given.
Call your local auto parts house and price the parts that are claimed
to be bad. You will then have some real idea of where and what
you are going to be charged with.
Let me know what you find out. Maybe I can be of further help.
