You have to, unless you want to convert your 240 to 4WD.

You Can Keep The Rb26dett Tranny.....although The Extra Weight Isn't Worth It Unless You Have A R34 6 Speed.
You Pull Out The Front Shaft Yoke And Seal It Then You Disable All The Electronics To The Transfercase.

You dont even need to disable the electronics, without the computer from the rear of the car, the front wont work at all.

Doesnt it depend on what year engine you get? I think the later model GTRs had a Pull type clutch and GTSs had Push? or is the Bell housing Seperate?

Easy for you to use an rb25 tranny and you will also need the rb25 oilpan.

the rb25det tranny can hold more of a beating considering its more of a bulkier tranny

I am imagine there is at least a small difference between a gts2.5t tranny and the n/a 2.5 tranny....Probably geared to be more torquey since the engine has less overall power...but who knows? I would look online (esp jap sites) for specific ratios.
And you will not want the RB26 tranny...so don't bother dreaming about AWD. AWD is for subis and skylines...not a 240.

The Rb25de And Rb25det Trannies Are Different...... The Rb25de Tranny Is The Same As The Rb20.
And There Are A Couple Awd 240sx's Running Around Now So Don't Talk Smack Awd Has A Ton Of Benefits..... And The Rb26dett Tranny Is Stronger Than The Rb20 And You Can Disable The Transfer Case.

i second that. that z is amazing. i love how the engine isn't cluttered up with wires as in the 240sx's....
