Chevy Truck Clutch

I have a 2000 Silverado 4x4 that I bought new. It has always taken a lot of clutch peddle travel to release the clutch. When it was under warranty the dealers said that it was normal. Now 62K miles it has gotten so bad that it is very diffcult to get the tranny in gear unless you push the peddle to the floor. I had an 89 Ford F-150 that did the same thing and I found that the clutch peddle Z-Bar was wore so bad that the slop in the linkage made it almost imposible to release the clutch to shift the tranny. I looked for the same kind of thing on the Chevy and didn't find anything. I had the local Chevy garage look at the truck and they think the pressure plate is bad, this is hard for me to believe, because I looked and the clutch disk and it looks nearly new.

Any suggestions?

hydralic isn't it? Try bleeding the system, but don't pump the pedal, just press down, open bleeder valve, close, release clutch, repeat.

I looked for a bleed screw and I did not see one on the master cylinder or the line that goes to the slave cylinder (this truck uses a a slve cylinder mounted in the bell housing). Where are the bleed screws?

Check the slave cyclinder located on the bell housing. You will find it connected to the clutch fork. The bleeder screw is usually on top and covered by a rubber cap.

Unfortunately on this truck the slave cylinder is inside the bell housing and you cn't get to it without dropping the tranny. Thanks Rich

I have a 97 and it has the same problem. The d___ slave inside the bell housing is leaking. I keep filling the resivoir. Until the clutch actually wears out, I am not going to drop the tranny. On mine, the bleed valve is just above the line that goes into the bell housing. I can bleed the line without moving anything.

I am going to drop the tranny this weekend, I do not see any fluid leaking from the slave cylinder, and I did find the bleed valve and we bleed it several times with no improvement. The Chevy mechanic claimed that the fingers bend on some of the pressure plates, we will see.
