Heater Core????

Hi All,
Pretty much I have the over-heating problem figured out, just need some ideas on this. If I drive the car, and from time to time check the defroster for heat, the car does not heat up, however, if i do not run the heater or defroster, the car tends to heat up within 3 miles or so. This leads me to believe that there is a block in the heater core that perhaps is floating and occasionally lodging and preventing flow. Does this sound right???? Any help or direction would be appreciated

Hi Tomfer,
When you mention that the motor does/does not "heat up" in your post, I am presuming that you mean "over-heat".
The over-heating problem is not being caused by any blockages. The fact that when you turn your defrost on, your motor does not overheat, is because you are effectivley increasing the distance that the water has to travel before getting heated up in the motor again, and you are also extracting some of the heat by blowing a fan past the core and into the interior of the car.
It sounds more like a thermostat or radiator fan problem that you are experiencing (I'm eliminating any water pump/water flow problems as your defrost description tells me that the water is flowing through the system).
