Okay, i want to lower my 00 Silverado by a few inches and get 20 inch rims. The thing is, i was wondering if it's possible to put bigger tires (if i can find them) on the 20's. I like how the bigger rims look but i don't like the look of the small tires.... what could i do about that?? or am i stuck with the little tires?? Also, if it is possible, somebody told me that you can't put bigger tires if you lower it... what is true??

Some people like lowering their trucks to get the sporty appearance of the new 20" wheels filling up the wheel-well (also known as "going ghetto or going nascar!"), whereas some people lift the hell out of their trucks to get the "redneck coming through-get-outta-my-way-I'm-going-4x4ing" look. :p

I am guilty of lowering my previous truck..(the Lightning) by putting shackles on the back for a 2" drop. The nice thing about it though is that it levelled the truck out nicely and gave it a clean look without all that space between the tire and the fender.

I would probably lift my Silverado though....except I have a 2wd model that really wouldn't make sense to lift-unless I wanted to be really high above the small amount of sand that I just got stuck in! :banghead:

Ok... you can lower the truck and put twenty inch wheels, but bigger tires...? I am not sure how big your looking. I mean your not going to be able to put 33's on it. But you can put a 40, 50 or 60 series tire on there. 40's are going to be the rubber band look where the 60 will give you a good size full looking wheel and tire combo. I recently lowered a 2003 chevy standard cab shortbed and was able to put 20's with 60 series tires.

Not sure how low you want to go so I can't help you out without knowing. But with a 2/4 drop you can easily fit a 275/45/20 tire with no problem. You could probably fit a 50 series tire as well, but it just depends on how low you end up going. The best advice I can give you is to lower it with your stock wheels and tires and then measure the amount of space between the ground and fender and go from there. And don't let anyone try and talk you out of something you want to do.

Redlight, ive never heard of anyone saying 'going nascar'. Saying that is an insult in itself. Most people want to jump on the band wagon of sport trucks and 20's b/c they want to fit in. I've been into the scene since I was 9 years old. And I wanted 20's 4 years before the term DUB even reared its ugly head. Most people who are 'rollin dubs' are a bunch of posers who want attention and think they're cool. I do it b/c that's what I love and could give to rats asses what people think of me or my truck.

Bowtieguy, let people do what they want and stfu.

No offense taken. I was just saying I had never heard of that term before. Thanks though, I appreciate that.

You're right....no one says going Nascar (I think I had a few rum and cokes that day! :uhoh: ). I think what I was trying to say was that alot of people have echoed the truck racing look that has become somewhat popular.....even manufacturers are offering pickup trucks with big wheels and good-handling tires, firm suspensions, lowered stances and big engines. I think there was even a Nascar edition F-150 (black).

In any event, my point was that if people want to throw on 20's and lower it, or jack it up 6 inches with 35 inch tires....to each his/her own!

Personally, I'm looking for some good wheels for my 99 black ext cab. I'd like a 20" that isn't too flashy. I leave the truck at the airport alot and I don't want to see them stolen (right away  ). I was thinking about the SS Silv rims, the Joe Gibbs wheels, or some sportrux game wheels. Do you guys have any suggestions and which do ya think look best of three??

Thanks!
