Ok so basicly i accidently was pressing on the gas insted of the break when i started my car, whoops. But any how it reved up alittle above 8,000rpms before i let off and it came down. So doesnt it have a rev limiter to keep it from over reving? if so what rpm is it set at?

B.T.W. Its the 420a w/manual trans

Um.. yea it does it is at 7200.
Maybe the rev limiter does not work in neutral or when the clutch is in

Yeah i knew had to have one, That is bloody weird. Well unless one of the older owners messed with the computer, then maybe it doesnt work unless its in gear like you said.

Ok thanks for the quick responce i guess i will just have to be alittle more careful from now on.

The computer doesn't want you redlining in neutral OR in gear, the rev limiter is there either way. To find out what yours is, wind 1st out all the way. :)

Odds are the tach is off, and the revlimiter wasnt reached. 800 is a lot to be off, but I have seen it. Mine is more like 400-500. Of course reving that high as soon as the motor starts is never good for it, but I'm sure it survived well enough.

i have a 98 gst and ive wrapped mine out to about 7800 on accident before. Im starting to questions if the 2g's have one.

yes they do... whether or not they fuck up and allow you to overrev sometimes is another story but all eclipses have rev limiters unless someone takes it out or makes it higher!

Turbo cars are limtied to 7500 rpm. In my case I have to get over 8k rpm on the tach because of the inacuracies in the tach. I always aim 3-400 rpm higher than I really mean to shift. If you datalog the car, at low rpm like 4000, the revlimiter is dead on. At 5500, it goes 1-200 rpm over. At 7500, I imagine it goes a little more still. Then add the crappy tach onto that, and you can see why people dont think these cars have rev limiters. But trust me, they do ;)

oh, thanx for clearing that up. so you think if i would have reved a little higher i would have hit my limiter?

I'd say, go test drive a DSM from a used car lot, and stand on the gas.

It appears that BMW 3 series have a rev limiter in every gear, what a coincidence!

lmao... i do the same thing when i am sick of beating on my own cars or they are both BROKE.. like now!

i will try that in first gear tomorrow to see if the rev limiter kicks in at all.

Ok well then i have anthor question for you, what is your rpm doing 70mph? (i want to see if my tac is really far off or on or what [at the lower rpms at least]) mine normaly does 3,000rpm at 70mph and what is really stupid is from 65mph to 70mph there is like only a 100 or maybe 200 rpm difference. But from 70 to 75mph there is a 500 rpm difference so maybe my tac is off.

Mine is at 3500 for 75 mph, if I remmeber correctly. But thats the AWD with lower gearing. The ECU says the rpm is lower than that, about 3300 I believe. Its been a while since I've even driven the car on the street.
