my '87 toyota pickup 22R-E usually idles anywhere from 750 rpm up to close to 2,000 rpm sometimes, i found out what the problem is but im not sure of how to fix it, the accelerator cable linkage on the TBU is sticking, is there anything i can do to grease this up perhaps?

are you sure it is the cable that is sticking and not the throttle plat itself? Remove the cable from the t-body and check to make sure it is the cable that is sticking. A lot of times I have seen this and it is actually the throttle plate that gets carbon and crud built up and starts to stick. get a good brand of cleaner like k/w gorrilla or even b12 chemtool to clean out the t-body and make sure to spray the out the passages, back of the throttle plate, the bar that holds the throttle plate and after it is all good and clean, put a littl drop of oil or two on both ends of the bar. dont use wd-40 or some other penetrating oil unless you use a drop or two of motor oil after wards, as the penetraiting oil will evap.
If it is the cable, you can try lubing it with dry graphite, but I would *NOT* use any type of grease or oil in the throttle cable, that can lead to a stuck throttle. If you cannot get the cable lubed with dry graphite, then replace it. Oh yeah, be sure to check for damage (kinks of pinches) on the cable
best of luck and write back to let us know how this turns out.
