Sputtering engine

I was driving home about 15 miles and my 2.2 liter s-10 sputtered and would not go but it never cutt off. Everbody says something different I am thinking fuel filter after talking to a car guru any suggestions.

Since a fuel filter is cheap you might as well replace and see what happens. Then get back to us.
