headers temperature?

anybody have a clue how hot the headers get? a general idea would be nice, or if you could tell me the temperature of the downpipe, that'd be nice :D

what do you need the temp for? do you want to touch it?

this may sound highly retarded, but i want to duct tape the flex pipe so i don't sound like a facking civic anymore

it going to be hot enough to cook some eggs so duct tape won't work. the adhesive from the glue will melt and the tape will fall right off. maybe try some wire from home depot.

I noticed in the subject you put headers. is it headers or flex pipe? either way, they'll get really hot. you can touch it for yourself after driving on the freeway for a while.

go get it welded. It'd be a quick job at a muffler shop. I don't know how much they would charge though.

You can't wield the flex pipe. I don't know if it would work, but you could try to coat it with high temperature engine paint. A cheap alternative to ceramic coating at a muffler shop, maybe...

get header tape, i saw some on ebay, it is specially made to wrap around the header to keep the temperture down

Header heat wrap is the only thing that will deal with the heat. Wrapping the flex joint shouldn't change the sound at all. You'll need to change the exhaust or just the muffler to do that. I had my flex joint wrapped for another reason and the sound remained the same.

The metal is already cracked, so I don't think that's an issue. And if it was still under warranty, he could just take it in to the dealership and not have to worry about paying for it.

It sounds like your best bet is to try wrapping it.
