Throttle Position Sensor

I have a throttle position sensor that is suspected to be faulty due to "service engine soon" code and was wondering if anyone has experience replacing this switch. I have heard that it is simply a bolt on application from some and others say it must be set with an ohm meter and mounting checked with a thickness gage. I have removed the switch once and found the bottom bolt nearly impossible to reach...does anyone have a good tool or method?
One last thing, upon installing a new switch is there a method for this? I tried once and the throttle remained fully open.
Appreciate any feedback or help?

well, i have an afc which is linked to the TPS signal, so mounting it whas easy for me because i just adjusted it to 0% at fully closed and 100% at wide open. If you havent taken your old one off yet then just mark its position on the throttle body and put the new one exactley where the old one was located. It is a bolt on job(only 2 screws). Im not sure how to test it using an ohm meter though, but i dont think you need to.

IF this is a 2g, you HAVE to set it properly. On a 1g, there is a seperate throttle closed switch, on a 2g its part of the TPS. So if the TPS is not set right, and the throttle closed signal isnt working, the ECU will not go into closed loop control of idle speed. If I remember correctly you have to have it set to 0-1% with the throttle closed for it to work right. The AFC method above is a good way to do it, but its even better to do it with a logger (or scan tool) since you will be seeing exactly what the ECU sees.

There is a method to set it with an ohm meter, but I dont have a manual so I Cant give you the procedure. HOpefully someone else can. I would still prefer the logger/scantool method though... The dealer should be able to do this in 5 minutes or less, but I'd bet they'll charge you an hours labor/diagnostics. Assclowns...

some of us work at garages who have the 10,000 dollar expensive as hell scanner that does everything. lol it can do live datalogging scan codes and a whole banch of stuff. im posting to see if anybody has a TPS for a 1g 2.0L N/T that they could sell me i live in pa semi-local that i could go pick it up would be best.
