have found a 64 1/2 mustang with 260 engine. how rare is this engine and car. would it be a good buy at 7000? it is great shape and in 98% original condition.

The 260 was offered only in 64 as a base line v8 and was eventually dropped from the motor line up later that year.

I would say an 64 1/2 stang for 7g would be a deal, and it also has the rare 260. so ya, i would guess that it does have some collectors value. buy it, put it on ebay for 10g

If I'm not mistaken, the very first Mustang to ever roll off the assembly line, had a 260. It was also accidentally sold in Canada, but that's another story. I don't recall ever seeing a 260 in person, and I go to a car show almost every week. They're pretty rare.

Maybe the owner didn't realize it was THAT car, thought it was another '64 1/2 with a 260 in whatever color/bodystyle and sold it, then went 'oh shit!'. I mean, I'm sure the guy who owned the first production mustang ever doesn't just have ONE mustang... Probably has multiple garages just bursting full of mustangs and other ford goodies.

Ford was taking the car around and showing it, when someone offered the guy taking it around enough money for it. Ford finally got it back years later for lots of money.

EXACTLY!! :bigthumb:

The car went to George Parson’s Ford, a Ford dealer in St. John’s Newfoundland. The car was on display, but it was not intended to be sold. It was still sold to Stanley Tucker, an airline captain. The car was not supposed to be sold, but Tucker showed up with the check the next day and actually was able to purchase it. He had the car for two years and put 10,000 miles on it. After those two years, Ford gave Tucker the one millionth Mustang, in exchange for the first one. That's why I said it was accidentally sold. Ford never intended for it to be sold. Here's a link with some information on that http://www.thenewsherald.com/stories/041804/aut_20040418093.shtml
