Info in 520 Touring

Just asking for some info on the 520i Touring for my father. He is looking for a new car, has to pull a caravan and cope with an Old English Sheepdog.

He is looking at teh 5 series as my mother likes the styling and he likes rear wheel drive (who doesn't?).

So question is:

What condition is a 95 / 96 UK spec 5 series likely to be in?
What problems is he likely to face?
What are the running costs like (he is a mechanic so will be servicing himself)
What is a good price?
Any useful info.....
