At only 1900 lbs. they still are a fast car and can be quite a bit faster with a relatively small amount of work.
just be sure to get the mk2, the others can get a little hairy in the corners.

To add to the above, the GT6 was a coupe (hatchback) where all Spitfires were roadsters.

Take on light weight Triumph Spitfire, Combine with VERY torquey 2.0L Triumph 2000TC engine, Cover in a smoth flowing GT body, and you get: The GT6. :D
Great little car, just dont lift off the throttle mid corner.

And you would be right. Apprently it was one of the influences on the GT6 rear end.

The Gt6 was a spin off the 240Z. The cars handle real good if you do SCCA, they turn on a dime. The frame does twist a bi though. The GT6+ is the car to get or the MK3, they have better handling.

Hey, nice to have another Triumph fan around here.
I think you'll find the GT6 was around long before the 240z was made, and if anything the old Datsun is a spin off of the GT6.
The GT6 is actualy based of the orginal Spitfire Le Mans car's from I think 1963.
There were a few, and only a few road going Spitfire coupes made, with a worked Spitfire engine and the GT6 style body.
Then when it was shown there was a demand for a small coupe Triumph tidyed up the body design, and plopped it on the Spitfire chassis with a 2000TC 6cly to make up for the extra weight.

I have a 69 GT6 in restorable condition, I drove it every day for 2 1/2 years, and put 40000 very hard miles on it since 1993 before retiring it. My 11 year old son and my 9 year old daughter both want it now. I'm looking at a restored 1976 TVR 2500M.

Yes the gt6 was around before the 240z and was based on the le mans spitfire (Which you can now bye ali reps of from jigsaw in the uk, look v good i have seen it close up, about £35,000) in the uk the gt6 was often called the poor mans e type jag. If you look at the two next to each other you can see it in the early cars mk1,2. never had one yet only Spitfires, Herald and vitesses.
