Brake fluid warning light

Dealer did brake job two days ago and red brake fluid light came on while driving. Stopped to check and it looks like reservoir is over-full, ie, I can see fluid above the strainer. Anyone know if being too full can illuminate the warning light? Dealer gave me the ho-hum on the phone, asked me to take out some fluid and see if it goes out. Where's my wife's turkey baster?
