I have a 98 Ranger with 4.0 engine that has approximately 75,000 miles on it. Runs great. Every so often it won't start. It could be a couple of days or even weeks before acting up again. Turns over fine, just won't kick off. Sometimes you can come back to it a few hours later and it starts and runs fine. The other day it had to sit over night before it would start. Naturally it runs fine when I take it to the shop. They say to bring it back when it does it again. Unfortunately, if it won't start, I can't take it back. HELP!!

could be anything. next time it won't start check to see if it's getting gas & if it's getting spark, once you know those 2 things it will help to see what direction to go.good luck!

You need a new starter solenoid!!! Its mounted on the passenger side inside fender. I have the same problem and it was solved. cost is about $25-$30.

new starter solenoid, would have to agree. Check all fuses, batery connections, battery as well.

I Got A 93 Splash And It Was Doing The Same Thing. I Had It Towed To The Ford Dealer And After 3 Days They Still Couldnt Figure It Out. I Changed The Fuel Pump Relay And The Eec Relay And She's Been Run Strong Ever Since. The Relays Ran $10 Bucks. Cheaper Than The Tow To The Dealer. Good Luck.

You may want to try replacing the "Map Sensor" if all else fails.

I had a similar problem and changing the fuel pressure regulator worked for me. Good luck!
