A 96 Eclipse should be able to take a MK1 MR2 in stock form.

You would take him on an autocross course, but most likely not on a road course.

is it even turbo. :) A MKI NA should be able to keep up with a GS eclipse. If it is turbo it will dust you in a 1/4 mile.

1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS
0-->60 = 9.0
1/4 = 16.6
1986 Toyota MR2
0-->60 = 8.4
1/4 = 16.5
It's close by stock numbers, but I would give the odds to the eclipse (unless it is convertible) just because it is 10 years newer.

I don't care what anybody says a mid engine rwd car that light is very potent at drag race'n and autoX'n. If he has a turbo and you don't he has the upper hand but if you are both N/A then you should win, both boosted you have the upper hand, if you know how to drive. I'm assuming you can't if you're asking a forum if you should race him. What the fuck do you have to lose? Run 1 for fun then go for $$$$$, if you choose. Get the revs up there then launch.
It kinda boils down to the driver when you drag race. Miss a shift you lose, shift too soon you lose, lose traction off the line you lose. All factors must be perfect. Just my a$$hole...I mean opinion.....excuse me.
I love rwd midengines, but the fiero is my number 1 choice. My friend has a STOCK 88 formula that eats the shit out of gst's, integra type R's, wrx's and fluffstangs. He races for emblems.....that is a pretty good bet if you ask me cause emblems ain't expensive and it's funny as hell to watch people cry over an emblem.
RACE AT THE TRACK SO YOU CAN GET A TIME SLIP OF HIM AND YOU.

if you can source one get a 4AGZE engine. Very nice power compared to NA. :)
