Vibration Under Driver's Floor

Local dealer has been unable to locate the vibration. You can hear it in and outside the vehicle, vehicle may be cold or hot. Dealing with this for over 2 years. Thanks.

Have you had the wheel bearings checked recently? How about tire pressure? How old are your tires? They sometimes get noisy and vibrate after a couple of years of wear. How bad is the vibration? Does it happen at any speed? How old is your explorer?

No - haven't had the wheel bearings checked. Tires rotated and pressure checked minimum of 6,000 miles with approx 40,000 on the current tires. Vibration isn't in the tires, but on the floorboard. This is a 99 explorer. Someone suggested a fan clutch?? Thanks for the info.

Well, if you've got 40,000 miles and have never had bearings repacked/torqued then it's time to do it. I've have road noise/vibrations in my explorer that feel like the entire front end is going at any moment, causing vibrations that can't be located, only to be fixed by repacking and tightening the bearings to specs. Ball joints can also dry out causing vibrations. As for the fan clutch, a quick visual inspection will tell if it is leaking fluid. You can also have it checked by the dealer for proper operation.

Yes! The dealer has heard it, but can't find it. It will happen in reverse, sitting still, driving, etc. Thanks!

It sounds like some component underneath is loose.
You should be able to track it down by crawling under it while it's idling. Block a wheel for safety.
