electrical short ?

OK, so this is for you electrical gurus. My radar detector wire got caught under the passenger seat and was snapped in half. Both wires were severed pretty close to the plug. So I stripped the wires a bit and soldered them back together, yellow to yellow, and red to red, or whatever. Unfortunantly, I didn't have any electrical tape at the time, and I wanted to make sure it worked, so I plugged it in, and it worked, great, fine, so I forgot about it and went on to other things. Except, as I was driving later on, I had forgotten to unplug it, and when I shifted, I hit the wire, and I am pretty sure the 2 wires touched. Now it doesn't work. So I'm assuming I shorted it out. What does this mean? Is it fried inside, do I need a new one, or is there any hope of salvaging this one? Will breaking the wires and resoldering them do anything, or did I screw this up? Thanks, Geoff

On the outside chance, check the fuses to see if one of them blew. Aside from that I fear you probably fried it :(

most likely you simply blew the fuse, radio shack will fix that(if you have one around) just take the one out of the radar detector and take i to an electronics store and replace it. you should be good

Wait blew the fuse on my radar detector right...not the cigarette lighter one in my car...correct? I havn't opened the radar detector up yet, when I do, will it be pretty visible? Also does the fuse look like the ones in our cars, or something completely different? Electrical stuff is not my thing. Dammit, I have to drive to NY tomorrow and I really could use that for the multitudes of highway patrol.
