Ok one of my friends has a 200 Ford Mustang SVT, it has a V8, Supercharger, and a six speed. He and one of the "rich kids" :disappoin from school are going to drag race out on this closed highway off of Highway 151. The rich kid has a Mitsubishi Evolution which I think is bone stock with a 5 speed (I think).
Well my friend with the Ford is kind of a gear head and has that car running perfect and he's also a hell of a driver, I just don't now if the Mustang can take the Evo :uhoh: . Despite the fack that it is a pretty straight highway (a few wide easy corners but it should favor the Mustang)
Thanks!

....... Well I would think that has the potential to be a drivers race but there are alot of factors that will probably play into the race. First and most important is driver skill. Now the stang owner will have to know how to launch is car because we all know about the deadly AWD LAUNCH! (I love my gsx) But also remember that AWD drivetrains have greater hp loss to the wheels because of the drivetrain and might not be so good at higher speeds (I hate my gsx). But anywayz, I say if its a quarter mile stop to go run, put your money on the evo. But if it's from a go......... well then it's gonna be close, but I'd probably still put the money on the evo.

if he knows how to drive your gona see the evo kill him off the line, most likely the evo will win the race but if he can drive a lot better than the evo driver then he has a chance of winning

im gonna have to disagree i think ur friend could take him in the svt imo the evo will most likely get him off the line but the stang will pull like crazy after that

what hp has the mustang got with a supercharger?
Mumm
06-17-2004, 03:57 PM
A 2000 SVT makes 385 hp and 385 ft pounds of torque stock and with a 0-60 time of 4.5 sec. :naughty: Then you add a Supercharger that is a FAST car. He's never told me the exact horsepower figures, but he has shown me the engine and that thing is sweet. If you don't belive my info go to http://www.fast-autos.net/ford/fordmustangcobrar.html
Oh yea I should mention that the mustang is a 2000 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra R; I just call it an SVT because it takes too long to say "2000 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra R"

now if were talking the 2003 cobra svt then thats a diff story. most people are running about 13.4 with there evo's as you would have to be a superb driver to get 13.1. obvioulsy many of you have not been doing your homework. they had tons of evo vs sti comparisons in magazines and they ran them at 13.1 and 13.2. if you doubt my knowledge then ask a moderator and or do a little more homework. im not trying to sound like an a$$ but it seems as if you guys don't know a lot about the evo-8

If I'm correct, the 1999-2000 svt isn't stock supercharged and was only a 5 speed. Now if this guy put in a aftermarket super then bye bye evo (if the stang can drive) but if it's an 01-02 svt then they were stock supercharged and 6 speed. in that case it's a drivers race (but my money's still on the evo.)

:sly: I don't know what some of you guys are talking about - there's a supercharger on that Mustang. How in the heck is a bone stock EVO going to hang with that sucker. Unless the guy has a terrible launch and misses some shifts, it won't even be close.

Well first off, you never said your pal had a Cobra "R".Thats a different car then just a Svt.If your buddy actually has a Cobra R then yea he would take the Evo.Seeing as how the Cobra R came supercharged.Did you not know this??Cuz it sure sounds like you just keep finding new stuff on the net and then are like "oh what i meant was this"
And what are you talking about "one of th rich kids from school".The cobra R is almost 20 grand more then an Evo and you are making seem like "this rich kid" has a fukkin supercar.Get your facts straight buddy.Cuz your buddy is one of these "rich kids" too if you haven't noticed.Regardless if he's a gear head or not, the money has to be comming from somewhere to afford one of those.
Also, if your buddy does have a "cobra R" post pix.

DUDE, THE COBRA R AND THE SVT COBRA ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. EVERYONE KNOWS THAT THE SVT COBRA AND THE COBRA R ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. ONLY 300 COBRA R'S WERE RELEASED AND THERE WERE MANY SVT'S. Cobra R was a upgraded version of the svt cobra. I am 100% positive of this because in 2000 Fritts Ford in riverside got in 1 cobra R in but like 10 SVT's. My girlfriends dad works there and he took us to go see it before the guy that ordered it came to get it.

mumm's site was talking about the Cobra "R". He said his friend has an Svt Cobra. Two different cars. Cobra R's run about as fast as the new 2003 cobra (12.9 1/4 mile) but a stock 1999-200 Svt might run high-mid 13's (with a fantastic driver) which no match for an evo. so it was not the factory s/c'd cobra, it would destroy an evo if it has an aftermarket s/c on it.

Anyone who says the evo is going to win is insane. First off, this is a cobra R. The R stands for racing! This car was meant to go up against the Corvette Z06 and other very fast cars. Stock the car runs mid-upper 12s. Add a supercharger and the car will easily be in the 11s. The evo is a thirteen second car and is not even close to the 2000 cobra R. The closest comparison from a mustang to the evo is the 2004 mustang mach 1.

You know nothing about Evo's, do you? Do you know how simple it is to get them running 11 second quarter miles? This is especially true of the older Evo II's and III's, the gearing is perfect for drag racing. I read somewhere (I'm pretty sure an old issue of NZ Performance car) Of an Evo II RS running 11.45 second passes on some of the most basic mods known to man- kept the sublime handling as well.
Don't rubbish something that you don't know shit about, kid.
My whole point I'm trying to make is for the Evolution owner to go so some basic work (Wastegate, boost controller, clutch, pod filter, exhaust, chip) and then come back and race- it'd even things out and probably be cheaper to do than the mods on the Mustang.

gee...
sorry, but it makes sense to read the WHOLE thread.
i make mistakes, just like everyone else.
but i DO read an entire thread before i put my .02 in...
at least then the mistake is in your knowledge, not in your reading.
sorry to be a smartass, but it's not like the statement about the car NOT being a cobra R was on another page. it was 2 posts up.

Flylwsi, I'm sorry for making a big deal out of it. Joebowlr21, I am pretty educated. I have a 4.0 GPA and will be named valedictorian of my senior class in high school next year. I just thought that you needed to know that you're not talking to a dumb ass.

EVO. the only chance the stang could win is if the driver knew how to launch and drive right. But i doubt he does, so my momey is on the evo.
I also hate stangs, but i didnt base my results on that.

Well the EVO should win in a 1/4 mile drag, if they are going to race for a very long distance, the S/C on the stang is going to help with the top end. The stock EVO's usually trap between 100-105MPH and the S/C Mustangs usually trap 108-110 this is @ 2700ft above sea level. The guy in the Mustang has to get a launch, but he will have to still play catch up......

actually the supercharger helps more in low end torque. since its always at your foot, turbo charger helps more at higher rpms

Very true, however the EVO runs pig rich @ high rpm (10:1) A/F, in stock form boost is reduced to 16lbs and timing is pulled (ECU Control) so it falls on it's face up top. With a good tune and MBC EVO's could pick up between 40-60HP @ AW. http://features.evolutionm.net/article/evomfeatures/38
