hey guys. in my last post i had asked for help with a misfiring cylinder. that problem has been address. thank you for the help! my NEW problem was last night, while i was at work, my driver side door window fell down. i took the door apart last night and couldnt get very far because of low light conditions. however, the brackets that hold onto the rails BOTH fell off, and there were two small pieces of plastic in the door. it appears that the front bracket has broken. is there an easy fix for this? my dad runs a ford company so they are going to run oasis on it today to see if there are any recalls or TSB's that need to be done on it. hopefully the window will be taken care of. if not, how much is the replacement for it? i have googled and googled and googled, and i have yet to find anything worth much. im waiting for my LLSOC registration, but until then, this place has been the most help. so if anyone has any comments that might help, that would be great!!!

thanks!
jeff

Yes, this is covered by a TSB. Common problem. I just had mine fixed for the first time last week. The dealership charged me about $300 parts and labor (about half-n-half). Next time, I'll do it myself. I wan't expecting it to be that much!

yea. i had my dad check on it and they said there were no recalls or tsb's that needed to be done on it. both the clips that hold the brackets to the rails have broken. does anyone have any idea if i can replace JUST the brackets, or do I have to purchase the entire regulator/cable/bracket assembly? also, i have yet to find any prices on these so how much are they? i can do all the work myself as i have had experience doing it. i just need to know how to get a hold of the parts. i called the dealership, and they had no idea. great help they are! if i dont get it all fixed, my gf wants to sell it for a new stratus r/t or saturn ion. HELL NO i say! i couldnt part with my lincoln!

First off, if you're gonna do work on the car you should pick up one of those service CD on eBay for $10. The part numbers are probably listed in there.

Second, find a different dealership.
Third, you should be able to get the parts through either www.fordpartsnetwork.com (http://www.fordpartsnetwork.com) or www.signaturelm.com (http://www.signaturelm.com)

expect $100+ for the whole regulator assembly. Not sure if you can get just the rails.

hey CG, quick question b4 i get to bed. is it the actual VALVE covers that are leaking? or is it the head gasket? my gf's dad and i talked about it a little tonight, and granted we aren't very familiar with that engine, we are wondering how the valve covers are responsible for the tips fo my plugs being soaked in oil. i know that every where i have looked, ppl have stated it is the actual valve cover gaskets, but we just wanted to be sure b4 we went diggin into the engine. thanks for your help!

Technically, it's the cam covers since the valves burried inside the head. The o-ring coil seals also develop a leak. When this happens the plugs and coils sit in a pool of oil, so I 'spose it's possible the oil wicks down the threads of the plugs onto the tip. I'd think it far more likely that when you pulled the plugs, the oil pooled up in the plug well drained into the combustion chamber and later covered plug when reinstalled.

I've not heard of ANY head gasket problems. If you DO decide to tear into the heads, make SURE to get the service manual. In addition to the usual installation procedure, there is a specific DE-torquing procedure that must be followed to prevent head warpage during tear-down. The head bolts are single-use, too. They are torqued to the point of yield and will break if you try to use them twice. Having an all-aluminum engine complicates things...
