Driver door panel badly scratched/dented

It's like a band across the drivers side door where something hit and dragged along it, and my side mirror was folded inwards - doesn't look like another car swiped or hit me but I can't figure out what happened. Anyone know how much a new door (panel?) should cost? Or maybe it's fixable? I've got a silver '01 Jetta VR6.
