Hello all !

please look at this picture : (if it is too big, please make a link)

http://gumball2004.free.fr/mclaren_f1/two_bigmac_together.jpg

this pic was taken near Austria/Germany border few years ago by TwinTurbos that I thanks ;)

at start, I believed that they were #073 (pics here : http://carpics.free.fr/SC03/SupercarRally03.html) and #002, I think that #020 plate is "I3 MAC" and this one is "M35I HPM"

But !

I am sure of nothing, the red one looks exteriorly exactly the same than #073 but
1) the plate is not he same
2) from twinTurbos, the interior is a little different from shots of #073 with more apparent carbon.
So, it could be #073 or ...

For the black one, it looks exactly like #002 or #020 or hmmm, does it exist other F1 like that ?

I hear your comments

Ciao
Phil

Hello,

thanks for your comments.

I have another pic which give no more details except the plate.

I made a search for the plates. The "Z" indicates that tax are not paid in Swiss. If it is #073, the pic should be taken before 2002 ;)

Hello,

very interesting hurstg01.
Do you have pics of #071 ?

I think that pics of this black F1 at Goodwood was already put on the forum.

Phil

PS : how many McLaren at Goodwood in 2003 ?

hurstg01
06-17-2004, 05:27 AM
i saw the one mentioned above, and i think i remember seeing a static display with a racing version there too.

At the Goodwood 'do' in September last year, i saw Juan Barazi's car on the road going into the dusty car park behind the main straight, and it parked between a 4x4 and a mini cooper 's'

Isn't the red one the one thatwas auctioned at Christie's and labelled the best mclaren out there?

And i think the black one with the red stripe was featured on 5th gear's GREATEST CARS, driven by Tiff. And it was also featured in Topgear, driven by Murray Walker, legendary F1 commentator.

No idea on their respective serial nos. thou. Peloton?

Oh, and is this red car the same one as the red car that was photographed together with an LM in one of the other threads?

Hello,

OK hurstg01.

cche2052 > the one you speak is #073. For me at 80%, it is this one on pic.
For the other, it has the plate "I3 MAC".

Cool.

So does that mean we have 4 confirmed Mclarens with a red stripe on each side?

1)the 13Mac
2)the one in the above pic
3)Jay Leno's
4)the silver one in japan

Out of curiosity, how many of you would specify a red stripe on your imaginary f1?:)

hurstg01
06-17-2004, 06:27 AM
not me

i'd rather it was as 'clean' as possible, preferably silver, black or yellow (to be different), with either a cream or tan interior

oh, and with f1 gmh as its number plate too!....

hmmmm , very strange..... but the plates are both from "geneve" in swiss , because of the GE in the plates.....

it seems that the red one is the same as 071

#071 is historic orange / yellow........

was it just a mistake or do you know something we don't know???

Here's my take on it - a different license plate is not enough evidence to claim either of these are different cars.

Dan Kennedy's orange F1 has worn two different plates in the photos I've seen. Carl Beal's F1 has also worn two different plates in photos that I have.

I'm going to go with "100% positive" that the car in the front is #073. I believe its the only short tail F1 that features the enhanced high downforce kit with the louvers over the front wheels. I also think those wheels are unique to #073. Unless someone has a #073 twin (which I highly doubt) there's no way that is a different car. The Christie's auction description made it sound like those items were exclusive to this car.

As for the car behind, I suspect that its #020 - the car formerly thought to be #002. Again, I can't explain the plate difference, but I don't really think you have to. I will mention that I have scoured the web for a photo of Tony Smith, #020's reported owner, to match up with any of the men seen in that photo and I haven't found one yet. I don't give up easily though. ;)

Now are there any more photos from this incredible encounter? I assume there must be, because no one would take just one photo of that scene. Also, no one could possibly read the plate on the second F1 from this shot and I doubt it's something one would think to make a note of.

BTW: Awesome shot Phil - I love seeing these cars being used for their intended purpose - driving!

Either it was coming from the M3 or from Chobham test track.

Lots of true stuff:bigthumb:

In some european countries (e.g. Belgium) the car gets new license plates when the car is registered to a new owner. If that is the case with switzerland, it may be the reason whe the plates differ...

Hello,

thank you for your helping comments.

For the plates, after a quick search, these are temporary plates in both cases for a temporary use in Switzerland with a number in white on red.
On september 2003, I red the digit "2" so I can think that the plates before the sell at Christies were dated from 2002 and this pic was taken before.

Peloton > he took some pics but he lost them few time ago :( What I ask me : what two McLaren do at Austria/Germany border ? If they were gone to any meeting, event, press test or track, we should able to find pics !

So is that the car that was featured on 5th gear's greatest cars?

Peloton25
06-18-2004, 02:06 AM
I certainly believe that it is.

Well lets say that I am certain that the car in the 5th Gear episode wore the '13 MAC' plate. I'm nearly positive that car which wears that plate is chassis #020 now instead of #002. I'm pretty sure that the car in the back of that photo is also #020, regardless of the difference on the license plate. How's that...

Hello,

here is a piece of the second pic to show you the plate.

Q : could it be #075 ?

Through a good source, I have heard that #075 remains unmolested in its original form, so no, it could not be #075.

I still believe it's #020 and will stick with that until I see information proving otherwise.

Hello,

interesting peloton, so your source can say it it is a link with Le Chateau d'Yquem in France and where is located this #075 ?

Thanks
Phil
