you'd have to have power to the wheels to slide.

powerslides happen when you gas a rwd car and the tires kick you out, spinning them, and sliding the car.

you're ass-dragging.
that's it.

you slid, not powerslid.

fwdcarssuck, go home.

also, keep in mind that a small amount of slide in the rear helps rotate a car in tight corners.

but if you want to get you ass chewed, go to the drifting forum.

ooo :uhoh: lol...well thanks for clearing that up for me cause i always thought that it was power sliding in a FF car and drifting or something else in a RWD car. :cwm27: hah..im dumb

You can drift with the E-Brake :)

06-18-2004, 01:37 AM
ya..but don't your back tires have to be spinning or something for it to be considered a drifted..?

if not..than your absolutely right..i saw a video i think in the drifting forum with some 91 lookin civ hatchies driftin ...damn..much ebrake was used

Here is why your little civic can't drift, I do like civics just not as much as I like the RX7 or S2000.

Basically the laws of physics won't allow it. See with a rear wheel drive car power is coming from the back so that basically means that you can slide the tail out and control the movement by countering with the front wheels. With a front wheel drive both the power and countering wheels are up front so it eliminates the possibilty of drifting grouped turns. A demonstration would be taking a rwd car and finding an open parking lot. Get up to a good speed and then just yank the steering wheel back and forth and you will start fishtailing. This can not be done with a ff and and drifitng is almost like fishtailing around turns. Of course this doesn't mean that you can't take your ff and throw it around turns because you can. Dave of Slide Squad does it pretty successfully with his Civic but the fact of the matter is that it's not drifting. A term that has become pretty popularized from the Velocity BBS is ass dragging.

when that's all that he can find wrong in what i said, yeah... ;)

skateforfood, we're on the same page.
i mentioned the ass-dragging thing.

it's basically induced oversteer, which can cause your rear end to slide, not drift.

drifting is controlled by the gas pedal, and can be kept going infinitely, which is not the case with fwd cars.

better known as "skidding" not "drifting"

hmm.....
I dont know if you drifted at that speed, especially without a setup. Also, it doesnt sound like you implemented any technique, a power-over in a FF @ 70mph? cant really do it. But its still cool man.

I gotta pipe in here because I love sliding around the rears in my Civic. I'm not going to say drifting, or ass sliding or whatever the hell you all have your interpertations of it being. I've never slid my rears using Ebrake though, I go for the pure weight transfer technique. Have a good setup that allows the rears to unload themselves with a quick lift off the throttle and/or moderate braking while steering as well as tighter and harsher steering inputs.

FF can drift, but only to a point. It's more drifting than any of us on here can do, but not drifting compared to a lot of RWD/AWD cars. I have a few video clips of professional drifters in Japan that use EF chassis Civics as their choice of car for drifting. They CAN and DO maintain a seemingly infinite drift with their correct and near perfect technique. You gotta have a lot of power going to the drive wheels of course, and a perfect balance of Ebrake, weight transfer, and power to maintain the drift so you lose a little speed as possible. There's rumors that an FF car or two is going to participate in this summer's D1GP USA driver's search as a USA contender for next year's D1GP USA pro drift event. I'm very eager to see this car in action if there does end up being one. I'm not saying that any FF can do this, because not even any RWD can. But if the right technique, and car set up is present as well as a driver capable of putting the two together, then FF drifting is totally possible. Don't believe me, I could care less, but check out some videos of it IN ACTION before shooting down something you don't have much idea about.

haha, its nobu. Thats how you say shift knob. But back to drifting, I can show many examples of FF drift sites and clubs. Unfortunately theres none that I know of in north america. Just let me know if anyone is interested.

you can drift and it dosent have to be with a rear wheel drive car you can do what he did and slide the car without using the e brake just cornor hard and "drift" sidways though the cornor and im not baggin on real drifters or anything im just stating a point.

There are a couple US FF drifter's I've heard of, actually there's one that was featured by... I think it was drifting.com a long while back, and he actually WINS the events he's in. But pretty much any FF drifters out there are from Japan.

Cool man, you know some japanese. Yeah, the writings too small and the story goes by a little quick at the bottom. Gotta work on that, but nice to see someone can understand it, w

haha i must say drifting is a good time...all of my "drifting" experience is in my little suzuki sidekick(jap geo tracker) i got out on the street, holy crap thing is insane. The tires are almost completely bald so traction is essentially nill. well any ways let me tell u my execution...approching a 90 degree turn i get speed up and right as the turn approaches. I do this with the clutch in braking slightly to get the speed just right i dont want to flip the damn thing. then as the rear end kicks out i rev the engine and dump the clutch. As im doing this i start to countersteer in an atempt to stay on the road. I keep the gas to the floor and can hold a legit drift for a second or two. then when i get off the gas the car snaps back into line...its intense.

just telling my story
