motor swap out of a 2000 EX

Ok, so I let this kid take my 2000 EX around the corner. He had no clue so he tries to race a Lexus IS300, smart move in a car that's not yours and the fact that the EX would never win. Anyway, he spun a main bearing and kept driving. I take the car to this shop, all they can find is an HX motor, so now I'm heading in the wrong direction as far as mods go. So I went 3 months without the car and finally had them throw the HX motor in, realizing this is a stupid move, I just need my car. Does anyone know if the ECU has to be changed or anything like that. The guys at the shop said no, but going from VTEC to VTEC-E I think different. I do plan on swaping the head out, back to a d16y8 so.....Can anyone help me out?
