best model for mods

i've got a 2001 V6 mustang right now and am looking for a pre-99 eclipse coupe. i was just wondering what it the best NA model for mods (insurance for a turboed model is too high for me). also, i've heard that the 0-60 time for a stock 5-speed eclipse with the 140hp engine is 8.8 seconds, but that sounds a little high, can anyone correct me on that?

how much is the mustangs insurance? Anyway, the 95-98 definately looks better, but the 90-94 parts are cheaper.

8.8 seconds 0-60 on the non turbo models sounds about right. Sucks, don't it? =P

There are only 3 models without a turbo, and none of them will be fast cheaper than a turbo model. If you need it ever to be fast, save the mod money now and consider the extra $2000 or whatever to buy the GST/GSX "the mod money from 140hp to 210"

Learn from my mistake of buying a GS. GET A TURBO TO BEGIN WITH. I never knew they put the 420A (and not the 4G63) in the N/T models from 95 and up on the 2G so I bought the first Eclipse I came across without knowing much about them. I've bolted on just about everything performance wise I can and it's not as fast as I'd hoped. Getting into the engine gets costly and I would rather trade up for a GS-T or GSX than drop money and effort to turbo my 95 GS. My car seems and sounds fast until a Chevy Lumina leaves me behind at the light so the 0-60 of 8.6 or 8.8 sounds right.

Now I'm not knocking N/T 2G's this is a great car and IMO on of the best styled cars of the decade so it still looks good and is EXTREMELY reliable (as I knock on wood...). I get compliments all the time in public, but I want to go faster.

Even though you speak of a V6 Mustang, it is a 2001 so I think insurance on a 95, 96 turbo eclipse would be cheaper due to the age difference.

thanks for all the opinions. i'd really like to get a turbo model, but again that's insurance for two cars. i think the insurance rating for the turbo eclipse is a couple of points higher than the 'stang.
