Tighten the throttle???

if i tighten the throttle on my 2000 Silverado will it make my truck go faster??? or at least make the gas peddle more responsive?? will it cause more wear and tear on my truck in any way??? good ? bad ? help!! ;)

You won't gain anything by tightening the throttle. The return spring is integral to the throttle chamber so I'm not sure if it is even possible to do this. Older vehicles you just simply put a heavier spring on the return plate.

Does the throttle body bypass really increase mileage??? and what exactly is a 160 thermostat? i know it's to keep the engine cooler but how do you put it in?? also could you explain how you would go about venting a crankcase with a K&N filter???

When you bypass the throttle body, all you are doing is keeping cooler air going into the throttle body, I don't believe this increases mileage and it has been an ongoing argument if it increased performance or not. Every body has their opinion on this...alot of guys with the F-body (firebird, camaro> do this to keep cooler air flowing when using a ram air scoop. I have never heard or attempted to filter out the crankcase, not saying its so or possible, but definate warranty voider....Now I have heard of tapping the rear-end and installing a breather to keep diff fluid cool and happy....but not crankcase. Alot of people install valve covers with dual breather stems and then place small K&N filters that way but most of those motors are of the non EFI version. I know this doesn't help at all but just throwing in my :2cents:

no, it does help i really appreciate all your help. i know close to nothing and just want to learn some stuff. i havea nother question, if you remove the MAF does that increase performance?? or mileage??

On newer trucks if you remove the MAF the truck just wont run properly if at all. The sensor is sending info to the computer and if you don't have it, I've never tried it, but I don't think it will run, and if it does it won't run well....If you want a little boost in performance, CAREFULLY remove the inner screen in the MAF, just be careful not to damage the three sensors that are right behind the screen.

^I have heard that removing the screen does give you a little more but the delicate wire behind the screen won't last long and you eventually ruin the stock sensor. Granatelli makes a performance MAF and they claim improved airflow up to 47% and an additional 10-23 horse. Drawback is the price though. I'm not sold on the idea of a MAF making that much difference wouldn't mind hearing any feedback from someone who has replaced their stock with a perf one.

First, the aftermarket MAF's don't have screens and second, it is very hard to remove a screen and be able to put it back in. It can be done...some come out easier then others. Mine came out nasty and it will never fit back in. I really don't think there is much of a difference between an aftermarket MAF and a stock one with the screen removed. What you really need to make a differance is a cold air system like a K&N FIPK. I installed the FIPK at the same time as removing the screen and I could tell a huge difference.

You could always do like I did and buy an extra one with a nessed up screen on Ebay for dirt cheap and then remove that screen. That way you still have the stock original in case the sensors do break. Just an idea.
