My SRS light came on and while my 97' was at the dealer I had them check it out. First they charged me $50 just to check the codes which didn't tell them anything except there was not hard failure. The light came on again for them and they said it was a problem with a wire in the drivers seatbelt. It was supposedly repair but a few months later the light came on again.
I found out that many things can trigger the light and it won't go out unless reset. I belive based on the last time it came on it's some stupid combination of my seatbelt and starting the car.
I searched the net and found out how to reset the light using the MEM connector near the fuse box. This connector is a yellow two wire connector which is plugged into a blank holder. I don't want to go into the procedure but it can be found on the net. As long as the light goes months between activation I'm going to keep reseting it and assume I have no real problem with the SRS system.
Just a little info to same some bucks!!! :smokin:

Isnt the SRS the airbag? I dont think the seat belt would trigger it. I thought usually when that light does on then something might be wrong with the airbag system.

Yeah, but having read some of the web references, it sound like it depends on the day of the week, whether it's snowing, whether Venus is in alignment with Mars, etc etc....
It wouldn't surprise me in the least that it's tied in with the seatbelt.

Yes the SRS is the airbag system but there are sensors throughout the car including sensors as to which of the front seal belts are fastened. I am also told a temporary low battery can also trigger the SRS and of course off the the dealer you go to get it reset.

What year Honda Accord do you have?? The one I had problems with is a 1997 (5th Generation).

Here is the procedure I used for my 5th Gen, 1997 Accord.
First, if the SRS light comes on even after being reset, this means you have a problem with your Airbag system, a very important safety system on your vehicle. Simply performing a reset will not correct this potential problem. However, after visiting the dealer a few times with my Accord and being told there was nothing wrong and being told the many different things that can trigger the light I was satisfied this was a not a life-threatening problem with my vehicle. Also, after performing the reset my light stays off for a month or two. The most common non-failure trigger of the SRS light, so I’m told, is simply a low battery.
Ok, enough disclaimers. Here is how to do it. Read all steps before beginning.
1. Locate the Memory Erase Module (MEM) connector. This is a yellow two-wire electrical connector located near the fuse box. It is NOT the multi-wire yellow connector going into the fuse box. On my Accord it is located right under the dash above the hood release lever. This connector is plugged into a “blank” socket, which is simply a holder for the connector.
2. Unplug the connector from the socket to expose the two metal terminals in the connector.
3. You will not need to make a jumper wire or a connector to jump across the two terminals. A paper clip might work but it might be hard to hold against the terminals. You will see why as you read on. I used a jumper wire with a small probe on one end, which I wedged on one terminal, so I could touch the second terminal with the other end.
4. Jump the two terminals performing an electrical connection between the two.
5. Turn the ignition switch past the ACC position to the ON position. But don’t start the car. Watch the SRS light, it should stay on for about 6 seconds and then go off, disconnect one end you the jumper within 4 seconds after that and the SRS light should come back on again.
6. Within 4 seconds after the light comes back on, reconnect the jumper and the SRS light should go off again. Disconnect the jumper, again within 4 seconds, and the SRS light should blink twice and stay off.
You may need to try this a few times to get it to work. Make sure you turn the key off between attempts. If it doesn’t work, or the light comes on soon after it is reset, it probably means you have a “hard fault” in the SRS system that should be fixed.
Hope this works, it saves me time and $$.
