Hello, all!

I have spoken to a few people, and some of them would rather the AYC be absent in the US release of the EVO. I wanna know what your opinions and reasons are.

Sound Off!

BTW, I kinda would like to have it, personally...

hmmm, I've heard reviews of the Evo 6 AYC that say it really isn't all that great. It adjusts between oversteer and understeer, but never finds neutrality. The result is a car that wobbles back and forth during turns, like you're driving with tires that have an extremely weak sidewall. I've never read any blow by blow reviews of the Evo VII AYC. Reviewers actually fail to mention it most of the time. Which leads me to think its been greatly improved for the VII, Seeing as how its unnoticed, and swaying back and forth in a turn would be pretty damn noticable if it was still a problem. I sort of want them to leave it on. If I dont like it I can replace it with a mechanical LSD.

Oh, and evochica. Doesn't the RS version come with an LSD and no AYC? Just splitting some hairs, the RS is a jspec version that doesn't have AYC.

i read some british car magazine where they took an Evo VII, M3, and a Clio 6 cyl. on a road trip. they said that the Evo VII with the AYC and the ACD felt like it was glued to the road. handled better than any in the bunch. which over a BMW, which are known for their handling, that's pretty good.

besides, i'll take everything i can to keep my car on the road. i consider myself a pretty good driver, but i'm not willing to bet a $25,000 car on it (that is when i get it).

good info, moldy, that's what I was looking for. If anyone out there acn direct me to some of those articles, I'd appreciate it.

That British magazine is Top Gear, January 2002 issue. It's based on the eponymous show by BBC which is very well received.

re: AYC. There was a review of the Evo 7 by Best Motoring last year and basically they compared it to the one on the 6; apparently they gave it the thumbs up because it was able to take the last bend on Tsukuba circuit with zero counter-steer, which was not possible on the 6.

As for my personal experience, I've never been on a 6, but I'm having a great time with my 7, especially around bends. :)

Cheers.

that's right, it was top gear. thanks for the magazine name crufty. also if you look at the PDF brochure for the Evo VII on the mitsu japan website, it shows the lap times between the Evo VI and VII, with the VII being faster. since it's acceleration is a little less, they obviously improved something. and who cares about a tenth of a second less of acceleration, i'll take better handling any day. driving in a straight line is only fun for a quarter mile, then there'd better be some twisties coming up.

yeah I was just looking at that info yesterday... also talked to a guy the other day that has one, and he said the AWD was the best he'd ever driven. he's a rally racer that imported an evo VII RS for competition.
