Sock the shit outta them?! I'd rather keep my socks on my feet and kick 'em in the head. What do you do if the person givin you shit has a knife or gun? Almost EVERY Martial Arts person is trained to handle themselves against someone like that, without running away.

Theres more than one Art. If people actually take time to study multiple Arts, they would see that there are MANY similarities between apparently opposite styles. Take Shotokan and Kenpo for example. Shotokan is Japanese developed in the '50s. Kenpo is Chinese and dates WAAAY back. If you rank up in Shotokan, and switch to Kenpo, you get to keep your belt because of the disciplines taught in one being so close to the other, and visa versa. Kenpo and Kung Fu aren't very far apart. Shotokan, Shotokai, and Tai Chi (believe it or not). Study the other before you diss them. I respect Boxing and Kick Boxing. Although boxing is good for your health, and staying in shape, and can help you defend yourself, it's not as practical to use on the streets of L.A. as kickboxing or the Arts where weapons are involved and where you can end up off your feet.

^The people who always the win the bar/night club fights are boxers and kickboxers. Simple there fit strong and have the ability to kill a person. Most of the martial arts are arts, they have a presitigous history and philosophical and cultural aspects to them.
Seriously one cannot learn a martial art and defend themselves from guns and knives at the snap of a finger, hollywood has brainswashed you. Boxing and Kickboxing is how ALL fights go down nobody is gonna perform a kata or go crane style they'll get their sorry as whooped. LA streets come on mate, lay off the Jacki Chan movies!
As for Ninjukai Taijitsu being one of the best imo is because of its use. Devised in ancient times by farmers, ninjukai taijitsu incorporates a taoist philiosophy along with its teachings of wrestling, sparring, fight situations, weaponry[not so important nowadays]. It is very rare art with only centers in Australia[perth] and its origin Japan where its art is being forgotten...

Bar fights most certainly mean crap. You hit the guy once, knock him unconsious, you just gave him a shortcut to where he was goin in two hours anyways. Movies have not corrupted my mind. I hold a Black Belt in Shotokan, Kenpo, Ninjitsu, and currently Brown in Kung Fu and Ju Jitsu (sp?). The Arts aren't about performing kata when your in a fight. Kata's are designed to get you familiar with linking together moves. The streets of L.A. are no joke. Movies DON'T show what it's really like in the ghetto's, what it's really like in a drug dealers neighborhood, or the whores and hookers around your house. I'm not gonna sit her and diss boxing, cause that aint right. People that take the time to learn it, deserve respect for it. Mix Boxing with another form of fighting (be it kickboxing, arts, or street fighting), and sure, you have a GREAT fighter. You think the Arts can't kill people. The first things you learn when reaching black belt are pressure points and quick kills (kill in less than 1 second with your bare hands). Study the Arts.
I refuse to have a battle, of information, anymore about this subject. You've come unarmed.

Hey Enve...experiment with different things and see what does you well. It's kinda like clothes, we can't tell you what will fit.

i always enjoy a nice workout, usually followed by a long shower, and then, if all else fails, take a long car ride to the middle of nowhere and drown yourself in music

Now that is Bullshit! like anyone has EVER used that. Please your just showing your lack of knowledge with that statement.
I highly doubt you ever acually participated ina proper fight with a statement like that. Its simple the bigger guys win fights i doubt all your belts in various westernized adapations in martial arts will do you any good. A belt means shit, fuck I can do an online karate course and get a fuckn black belt. Kickboxing/boxing is a dedicated sport with fitness and weight training harsh regimes, one does not become a proficient kickboxer/boxer in 3 months worth of classes..
Movies have not corrupted my mind
whatever you say Jet Li! :uhoh:

We're done with the whole martial arts issue. If this thread goes off topic again, it will be closed.
enve, I too had a bit of an anger problem not too long ago, mainly from people being stupid asses, saying stupid shit to me and other things of the sort. Then, one day, I decided I didn't care anymore. Someone said something stupid, I let them know it. Someone pulled any bullshit, they knew about it. Some little fuck did something completely ridiculous, you're damn straight he learned right quick that it wasn't acceptable. Anyways, don't hold it inside you, if you can express it without too much trouble then do so. Just don't hurt anyone physically, that's not cool. But yes, as has also been suggested, take up weight lifting, or another hobby of the sort that lets you exert force and the like.

Sometimes it's as simple as saying "Fuck it" and laughing when confronted with a situation that would normally cause you to lose it. It gets easier every time after that. Choose your battles. If you freak out over every little thing you'll be miserable...

maybe ill take up kick boxing, i've taken tai-kwon-do for 6 years and got my black belt, didnt really do much for me cept let me spar w/ others, made me flexible, and a little discipline. Only reason why i never got into kick boxing is because i recently tore my A.C.L. in my knee and thats holding me back. I've tryed the fuck it thing, then laugh at them, but then they say something back and it results in physical violence, i mean i'm a small guy (skinny that is) and i dont look muscular at all, but when i hit, i hit hard, and if some one just like looks at me wrong and laughs i will hit them in the face and drop them to the ground. i dont know, i just guess i need to work on control? just dont know where to start... i guess this is a start for reconizing it, i stopped my drug usage also which had a great influence on it probably.
