Keyless entry works....sometimes

My keyless entry works half of the time. I thought it may be a programming issue, but I'm doubting it. I've checked the connections under the dash at the receiver unit, all is well. I replaced the batteries in the remote. Any thoughts? I keep getrting locked out of my car, as my locks won't open with the key, they are seized from lack of use because of the keyless entry.

I have the same problem with my '95 Regal GS. I'm pretty sure that the metal clips in the remote that contact the sides of the batteries are to blame. They don't seem to stay in place. Mine always seem to pop up and away from the battery when I put it back together after splitting it to fix the problem.

I was trying to determine if it was the remote or the receiver. I suspected the remote, after reading your post I'm almost 100% of it. Thanks for your reply.

My '94 Custom worked sometimes then stopped all together. I found this link and all is well. If batterries and reprogramming with the trunk lead fail and your not afraid to solder, you may want to consider this procedure. Mine hasn't missed a beat since.

At noon today, I found myself locked out of my car for the same reason. After pressing "unlock" about 100 times, it finally worked. But only once. With the window rolled down, I tried the lock, unlock, trunk buttons. After many tries, they all worked one or two times. I might try the soldering route (noted above), but if there's a simpler solution I'd like to try it. I don't see any problem with the battery clips, but I was wondering, WhiteGS, if that worked for you?

Well, tried to ground out the wire in the trunk and nothing happened. I'm thinking I may just get the door lock cylinders replaced and forget the keyless entry for now. If I attempt the removal of the receiver and soldering I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks all!

Hey you guys, I had the same problem with my 93 buick .Did the step by step and resoldered the 14th i.c. pin and it worked. It's not that hard to do at all. Just follow the step by step instructions.

It might be the buttons in the skin not making contact. Iremoved the skin and short each area with key and remote works every time. I am planning to replace skin (with button) and see if it works.

my electrician bro-in-law gave me a good tip to fix a remote that works intermittinly. use a newer twenty dollar bill like emory cloth and take the remote apart. you will see where the contacts are and rub them with the twenty. it gets pretty grimy and the remote works good. good luck, keith

I found a simple way to check if the remote is working using your tv set. If you normally use cable, remove the cable connector and connect a small antenna. Tune tv to channel 39. Key remote close to antenna and if you hear a buzz and lines on tv remote is probably working. If using off the air TV turne to channel 40 and run the same test.
