Jay Chou looks more like Ryoksuke than Takumi, aw well, make up and different hair styles would obviously be used to make them more like the anime characters

Tsui Hark is not on this HK Initial D movie.
Peter Lam, chairman of Media Asia Group, has announced that Andrew Lau and Alan Mak will indeed be replacing Tsui Hark to direct HK Initial D movie, claiming schedule conflicts as the reason.
Felix Chong is now re-working the script. Shooting starts in Japan by may.
Shooting of Initial D is being delayed due to conflicts between Tsui Hark and Media Asia Group. First, there is a disparity of some HK$10 million between the two's proposals on the production budget. Tsui Hark wants the movie to be as grandiose as possible and to film the car races on actual locations - primarily Japan and Europe - as depicted in the comics. However, this would require a hefty budget which Media Asia Group is hesitant to fork out. Secondly, the script is heading in two directions. Media Asia Group wants the movie to be commercially viable, while Tsui Hark insists on making it according to his filming language and style. Thirdly, while they are basically in agreement on the male cast Jay Chou, Edison Chan, Shawn Yue and Anthony Wong, they are again in dissent on the female lead.
Owing to many disputes, the studio decided to delay the shooting, with no date fixed, wonder how the issue develops. Media Asia Group declined comment on what it would do should the controversies remain unresolved, but some top-dog privately revealed that the director would be changed if the worst comes to the worst.
EDIT: I read it wrong before, its Andy Lau's movie company. I thought it was Andy Lau as Bunta Fujiwara... Although I still remember seeing it somewhere when it was first announced as Andy Lau as Bunta. Also I hope the female lead isn't something stupid like Twins.

the movie is doomed. It was doomed when they mentioned Andrew fucking Lau.
That guy can't direct a movie for shit. Why the hell they haven't got a japanese director etc to do it is beyond me. (I heard jackie chan's production company bought the rights or something?)

Remind me one of the jacky chan movie .....is about a hong kong racer and the mad undergroud racer .
The racing sence on the circuit was fuck up like hell , totally looks like a toys car on the track (that sence is directed by this guy) I hope this fucker will do a research before shoothing a racer movie (even "The fast & the ferious) is the best research material for him!

IMO I think Tsuchiya should be Bunta, he's perfect. He drifts better than anyone, he's old, he's got an 86, and I bet it won't be long till he picks up smoking hehe.
I also think that they should go over to japan and watch the drift events, and pick whoever looks like Takumi (and can drift well too of course) :P

And hence why I'm confused... Did they go to Europe in the Manga/Anime? or are you saying that Europe has places that look like some of the tracks/ settings like in Initial D

i dunno why they are filming in europe. its just an article that is pretty recent that i found. it could be a variety of things. maybe there is a sponser there and its a contract agreement? maybe they filmed or made streets there that resemble the courses in japan 'cause they couldn't get clearence to use those actual places in japan. or maybe this movie doesn't follow the manga or the anime and its a different storyline. i really can't say.
as for the movie, you guys are asking too much. if you expect too much you will be unhappy either way. its best not expect it to be great, if it happens to be alright but if not no big deal.
