Which transmissions fit 1987 535is?

I have a 1987 BMW 535is with an automatic transmission that is slipping badly. I can’t afford a rebuild or new transmission, so I’m looking for used. My question is; what transmissions will fit this car? I can get a good 1987 528e transmission from a friend for free, but I don’t know if it will fit. My transmission has the “Select Shift” switch; Sport, Economy, and Manual modes, but I don’t care about that. I will be extremely happy if I can just get this car back on the road, as we love the car.

Can someone please tell me which transmissions from which years and models will fit this car, so I know what to look for?

you, obviously, need a 4HP trans and while a none EH will work [you'll need to connect the throttle cable] it's best to use an EH [electronic control] unit like you have. as i recall, any later 528e, 535, 635 or 735 [E23] trans will bolt right in.
