Right now I have a single 12" MTX sub, with a 600W RF amp. It hits pretty hard, but lately Ive been feeling that its not satisfactory for me.
One of my main concerns is that it not only sounds good inside, but you can hear it from very far away.
I have been tossing around the idea of upgrading my stereo to achieve this. Here's what I have so far:
The local Circuit City has 1000W amps for about 150 bucks, RF i think, but im not sure. I want to buy another 12", and then 2 1000W amps to power each sub. So I would have 2000W going through 2 12"s. Does this sound like a good idea? Or is it a retarded idea and i should save my money?

sr20de4evr: Why do you say mainstream crap? Like name brands? And who can build me a system? You? Because any help/advice would be great.
JC80: Circuit City ripped you off? I got my second sub there after my first broke for about half of what I paid the first time. And do you have good online recources you could direct me to?

Mainstream meaning basically everything Best Buy and Circuit City carry. There are name brands that are decent that you would be happy with (Infinity, JL, etc), just not the ones that CC sells. Just about anyone here could build you a system, what kind of price range are you looking in and what type of music do you listen to?

I would like to keep the whole thing under a thousand. As far as music, I listen to just about everything, a lot of rap, and a lot of hard rock. My deck has adjustable bass settings, so I havent had any problems making anything sound good.

what kind of head unit do you have now? How loud do you want your bass? Do you like a crisp clean sound or do you just want it to be loud? Can you build your own box with plans or would you need a prefab?

Pretty much anything you are looking for can be found cheaper online..just do a search of the item and include "sale" or "lowest price"..worked well for me.

I have a Pioneer Premier headunit now.

I want it as loud as I can, but not too distorted.
I would prefer a pre-fabricated box.

Okay well thats a good head unit so you won't need to upgrade that. What prce range are you looking in? Do you need highs and mids too or are you jus upgrading your subs?

I am just upgrading the subs, and as for the price range:

hey ace, are you looking for quality or volume? ok this is just what i have found out from using alpine vs pioneer, my old alpine 9807, had a bass engine, nomatter how loud i turned it, the bass was never really that loud, maybe it is because of the 4v sub out, but the bass was really really clear, even for a kicker comp vr, but now, i replaced it with a pioneer premier 860, the bass is insanely loud, much louder than i have ever gotten it to with the alpine, but at high volumes, the bass becomes muddy, so this is what im guessing, the alpine is more quality oriented, and less volume, the pioneer on the other hand, is the opposite, it can get really really loud, much louder than the alpine hu, but it has a very messy bass engine, nomatter how i set it

1000$ for jsut subs and amp....damn
15 brahma, 15 xxx, idmax 12(don't think they make a 15) or maybe two idmax 12's.........
i'd say get two idmax 12's and an amp that gives them about 500-700 watts apiece, rms of course, you could keep that under 1000$ and it would be almost unbeatable IMO.

The reason the bass is muddy is because you porbably have the lowdness setting on. They are both quality oriented, you just have to know how to adjust them right. It is not just the bass engine, there are a lot more features you need to work with on the pioneers sometimes
