I'm considering replacing my composite headlights with aftermarket items. How hard is it to remove the factory composite headlights?

Should just be as easy as unscrewing the mounts. I have never done this, and I'm thinking about doing it to my 88, but it has sealed beam headlights. (and a mulitpattern headlight wigwag!)

If you are only replacing the lens part, Open the hood and it is 2 long bolts with either an allen or a torx head. Remove those and it comes right out. To do the whole asembly the grill needs to be removed and it is 4 bolts to remove. The whole assembly has the adjusters built in so they would need to be readjusted. If only doing the lens then the adjustment would not change unless the aftermarket ones need to be aimed different. Simple job either way.

Just like thunderbolt said, if you are going to replace the whole unit, take the grill off. I think there are (4 maybe 5) 7mm hex head screws on top and some holding tabs on bottom. When you have the screws off (recommend a nut driver for the job) on the top, you need to wedge your hand in and disconnect your side markers bulbs from their lens and the parking light bulbs form their lens. You then need pry the grill off from the tabs (carefully use a flat head screw driver). Four bolts hold your head light unit on, remove them. Disconnect your bulbs and your all set. The whole job takes no more than 35 minutes. Befor I put my caddy clip, I had some nice angle eyes from http://www.matrixracing.com

Thanks fellows! It looks like I'll be removing the grille since I purchased some projector units. I'll let you know how it goes

Its real easy. You got 4 7mm bolts on the top of the grille shell. but first you need to take out your park lights, real simple, then I think there are one bolt (7mm) behind each parking lense, and hten there is a 7mm bolt behind hte bowtie, and then another on the clip right in the middle of hte grille. Realy simple to take out, takes less then 10 minutes. I have hte projectors on my truck (APC) I like them alot. Good luck with it!
