The p0340 code for the camshaft position sensor seems to be a rather common problem in the 1997 Taurus. I currently have the same problem with my 1997. I stopped to Autozne as well, the part is $24.99 Ask for part number SU4101. THis should be the correct sensor. Which engine do you have, this particular ssensor is for the Vulcan engine, I am not sure if it will work on the Duratec or not. Let me know if I can help further.
