Service Engine Soon problem

I tried out http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/shifting_faster_with_an_auto.htm that since I was going to swap a manual in my car soon and decided to have a little fun.
Anyway, there was little difference when I tried it and when I was driving around, I noticed the "Service Engine Soon" light was on. I tried plugging the resistor (or whatever the name is) back in but the light still won't go away. The indicator only means there was a malfunction detected in the Emission Control system, however, the eye catching light is extremely annoying.
If anybody can put input here, please do so. I appreciate any help, Thank you.
