for my 96 se 4cyl i paid around 2500, thats with only like 80K miles. I really havent had to many problems with mine. I have a busted sway bar, but thats cuz the way i drove it :banghead:, the o2 sensors have gone bad a few times. There really isnt anything that has gone wrong with it, that i havent caused. As long as the car has a good background and you take care of it, it will be a good car. Look the car up on www.kbb.com. That will tell you about what the cars worth.

the 3100 v6 is a very reliable engine that will last for 200,000+ miles if properly cared for. The lower intake gasket goes bad on many of them, mixing coolant in the oil, busting rod bearings etc. Good news is, keep an eye on the oil and catch it early and you're fine. The new redesigned gasket is much better so once you replace it you don;t really need to worry about it. For more info (in case you buy the car) about the 3x0 engines visit www.60degreev6.com great site, they really know their stuff over there.

good luck

I bought a 2000 v6 after I looked into the rental car companies and what they had to say about there cars track records. At the time the grand am v6 was there 1# low problem car since I liked them anyways I just went out and got one. I been rough with it and it just keeps taking it.

Purchased my 97 3.1 in August of 2002 with 84k miles for 4100 after they were looking for over $5k. I worked the dealer a bit, and eventually got them to lower to $4400 ( I think it was), and agreed to their finance thing, telling them I would put insurance on that night and get a down payment together and be back the next day. Next day...I walk in and offer 4100 cash. They were hesitant at first, but then I started counting 100's in front of them and they were more than happy to :-)

Moral of the story--go in with cash and fidget with it!! You'll walk with a much better deal.

I just bought a 1996 Pontiac Grand AM se V6. Read the thread "1996 Grand Am brakes" by jefrut and read the thread "1996 Pontiac Grand AM blows a fuse when the AC is turned on". Try to make a sound decision. =) I bought mine for $1700 cash. Came from an auction so I expected some problems hopefully they dont get out of hand. Other then that not a bad car.
