i could be wrong but i think thers a switch on the e brake when its on it kills the lights, if thats the case u could tie into that and put it on a switch

i don't have DRL on mine, but i drive with my lights on day or night. its that extra step for another car to see you coming. Thats the reason they started using DRL in the first place

Okay, it bothers me, because they are always on, i know its on durning the day becaus they are fucking DRL's think about it, thats a pretty stupid fucking question. I want them off for my own reasons, all i asked is for help not people be fucking jack asses and ask why it bothers me and how do i know they are on during the day. I want to be able to turn them off because when i'm idling outside some ones house at night i dont want my lights on, or when im in a court i dont want them on, or so i can flash people with my head lights so they know im a friend, not some random person, i have lotsss of reasons. I'm just trying to figure out how to make it so i can turn them on and off!

Lights on in the day is actually a good idea but not ever being able to turn them off at night would drive me crazy. Unfortunatley i cant help you..soooo good luck with that

of course you know they are on because they are DRLs but I was asking why you notice they are on during the day. Don't call me a fucking jackass when you're the one that can't find the OFF switch for your headlights, yes, I said it, all cars, even with DRL, have an OFF switch. Now find it and don't ask anyone for anymore help moron.

I agree with you totally, the lights suck. My 1998 Grand Am are on all the time. There are 2 realys, DRL daytime running lights, and ALC automatic lighting control. There are no way to shut the night time lights off at night. (ACL) The only way the DRL light shut off are in park or with the emergency brake on. The relays are mounted on mine in front of the radiator on a bar. I don't know if you can pull the ALC relay out and the lights will still work.
Good luck

Put an inline switch enve. After all there just wires , just be carefull and know which wire is which using a battery tester or something like that.

Hmmm, I seem to have a similar problem, but my 96 GA SE has its lights on all the time. Headlights and taillights. I can't turn them off. The switch beeps if I leave it in the on position, but when that is in the off position, the lights are still on in broad daylight.

I too don't like the DRls, but everyone is entitled to have their own preferences. Anyway this forum should be for help, I would think, and I too need some help. My 1996 Pontiac Grand AM also does not have a DRL off switch some cars I read come like that from the dealer. If anyone has figured out a way to bypass the DRLs please reply. Thank You!

hey, i got a 99 ga too and that is a legitimate question.. I even asked a gm tech once if it was possible to disengage the damn things and i cant remember the answer, but my brother found some relays and shit under the hood on the drivers side that may do the trick for you. You're probably already aware of it, but if you have the engine off and crank the car with emergency brake up the lights wont come on until it is released and too the lights go off when the car is put into park even if it is still running unless the sensor senses that it is dark enough for headlights and then I'm sure you know the drill. Those things really piss me off too, you cant even pull into an alley and kill the headlights at night if you have unwelcomed assholes following you. Good luck and let me know if you're successful and I'll do the same...

There isn't really an easy solution to the DRL situation. At nighttime(or whenever) if you have your parking brake engaged, the headlights will be off. As soon as you release the parking brake however, the lights go on. There's a fuse for the "Automatic Headlamp Control," but I believe if you remove it, you will then get a "service vehicle soon" warning light. You could try that if you can put up with the damn car dinging every time you start it up.

.... its contorled my the cpu, its programing, on newer cars..... lets say 97 and on all have drl and you have to either run a switch and someother fancy shit betwin the lights and your computer to stop it, so you cant really do any thing about it, unless your goign to drive around with your e-brake on all day.... (not a good idea)

It's a newer GM thing. Every car from like 97 on has automatic lights durring the day or night. It has a light sensor that detects weather it thinks it needs the lights or not. On my 97 I can't turn the foglights on untill the late afternoon since the car dosen't think I need them. I was working on a 02 Suburban in my school's autoshop and there should be a fuse to turn off only the DRL's either chek the fuse box in the car or the one under the hood. As far as turning off the lights at night I don't exactly know if it's possibe, mabey GM was tired of people using their cars in Drive By's or something. lol. Anyway good luck with your problems and hopefully I've been some help.

If you barely pull your emergency/parking brake up just enough to hear the ding then it will not engage the brake but it will turn the headlights off while you´re driving and if you want them on then use your headlight turn switch located to the left of your steering column. Hope this helps!!!
