Eclipse V6 rumor

I was at work today and one of my co-workers asked me what size enigine i had in my car. A 4 cy or 6 cy. I told him a 4 cyl. He than said ok and proceeded to tell me that he was watching the news and there was a report on the eclipse v6's.

The report that he heard was when an eclipse V6 hits around 35,000 -50,000 miles, I think he said 50,000 miles, that the V6 eninge's valves or something inside the motor internal gives out resulting in an estimation cost of close near 2,000 - 12,000 to repair. The percentage of this happens in nearly 90% of the V6 models. But if this does happen, wouldnt your warranty cover the bill?

I was wondering if anyone else has heard of these problems with a V6. Once again, my numbers might be off but I'm not sure. If it is true, I guess I'm lucky that I have a 4 cy and that they're good for something. Your feedback would be appreciated.

thanks

Never heard of that. If it were a problem, I am sure that Mitsu would have fixed it. If that happeded to me, I would sue.

Yea..I've never heard of it either. Likewise, Mitsubishi would of solved the problem if it occured or did a recall.

The only thing ive heard that remotely pertains to that is that my uncle said you have to change the timing belt out at about 60k miles, im sure if that broke it would screw your engine up pretty bad but i doubt it happens in that many vehicles.

Very untrue I have almost 90K on my 01 GT and no problems as of yet knock on wood! Plus up to $12,000.00 no way it does not cost mitsu that much to make the car!! They could replace the entire power train for less!

Part of this is true. I read it the other day in the paper. They needed to issue a recall but frauds in the company didnt do it because of mitsubishi's poor earnings. The cost to repair the damage is no where near that high though.

That's amazing, I've gotten past the 50k mark unscathed~! Praise the Lord.

thats is not remotly true. hes thinking of the 2gen turbos, thats what happens to them, exactly! not the V6's, even if it did, it is covered under warranty, i just got my throw out bearing replaced just because it started to make a sound and didnt even cost me a penny, Mitsu is pretty good with their wrrenty, i just went ahead and spent the extra money and got extended with more covereage, its worth it. but ive never heard of this problem in the v6's.

Do you void the warranty by pulling out stock parts and putting in aftermarket (such as CAI, and lowering springs)...I'm pretty sure it does but i'd like a second opinion...

some parts will void the warranty, some wont. it will also depend on the dealership. for example, headers will void the warranty. a CAI probably will not. however, if the CAI causes a problem then it will void the warranty. if you suck up water with your CAI, then the dealership probably wont repair the engine under warranty b/c it wouldnt have happened with the stock intake on.

Ohh I dont think so. DSM were riddled with some QC troubles, like crankwalk etc, but to clown the 4G63 durability is silly. Thats what most honda ppl say "oh its starts falling apart at 100K miles". nope. The 3Gs have had it the worst.

I know the 4G63/ 2.6 motor has issues with cracking heads, it's caused by the MCA jet valve insert. Steel pressed into aluminium would cause heat to be held and would crack. A head could cost $1,200.00 with labor. There is a company that makes heads without the jet valve that prevents this.If I find the name or site I will post it.

Which one is it, the 4G63 or the 2.6L? The 4G63 is a 2.0L motor.
