Hey guys whats up? I have a bit of problem with my car. When i start it up it makes this squeaky noise for like 2 sec....i just changed all of my belts and i thought it could be that, so i sprayed some stuff on there for the belts.....ill have to wait and see if it will work....Anyway, when i drive my car i hear this squeaky noise when i hold the engine around 3,000 rpms. When i hit the cluth it stops. Anyone have an experience like this or know of a possible problem.....my old man said i shouldnt worry about it, but it just annoys the fuck out of me.
I have a 99gst with an intake and a muffler tip (Yea....i bought the car like that from the dealer) more mods to come

if it goes away when you push in your clutch is shounds like the throw out bearing in your clutch.

lol....yea i like that idea too....maybe just throw a fucking grenade in there while im at it. I didnt do my belts myself because i have no time and patience to so i sent it to my personal mechanic. But what are ways to tell it could be the belts and clutch....any other possibilities as what this annoying sound could be? Thanks in advance for the help guys

I have been told that on my car when it I am stopped sometimes I hear a bearing noise but when i push in my clutch it goes away. I was told that it is my throw out bearing and not to worry. some cars go like that for ever, but some go out.

Try to see if all of your pully bolts are tight and dress your belts. That's all I can think of right now.

yeah I had a problem too with my belts sqeakin when I started it and when I started to drive away. If it's not your bearing, then just tighten your timing belts and the belt right beneath it (cant remember the name). I've had to do it acouple times, I heard its just something these cars do - luckily it doesnt do any damage (atleast to mine it didnt).

good luck if the throw out bearing goes out...hheheh you will be pissed.... take it back to the dealer and tell them you wanna know what the fuck is wrong with it.... if they dont look it over... take it to a mitsu dealer and have them charge you $20,000 to R&I the wheels heheh...most cars do squeek like that... i have a mazda 626 '00 and the bitch squeeks... but when the RPMS are up it stops... i know what i said was a waste but ya....

its not fun if the bearing goes out, more like a pain in the ass. but if it is getting changed put a new clutch in it at the same time.

No 98GSX very helpful because i forgot to mention that when the RPMS go up the sound goes away....i dont know if its the engine or the muffler covering the squeak, but you definately cant here it....

ya...no biggy...its the belts...think about it... if you increase RPMs the belts get tighter...therefore the sound goes away :screwy:

Thefro-- what if the clutch is fairly new.....like 6 months new... If i change the clutch will it be less money and less of a hassle than fixing the bearing problem? the thing is I noticed it after the belts were changed....all the other belts were changed because the timing belt was new....the owner must have changed it not too long ago. But yeah it might have been doing that before i changed the belts as well, and i might have just not noticed it. So i have no idea what it could be....any other experiences with this gay ass problem?

I know what you have. I had EXACTLY the same problem. Its a belt issue and could also be a pully problem. The power steering belt is usually the culprit. Also check to make sure your idler pulley and powersteering pulley are installed correctly. Its a .005 mm difference if you install them upside down...you wont notive any trouble and the car will run fine, but that screeching noise will result. No harm is done to the car though...just annoying and very embarassing, haha. shum.

yea that would make sense guys about the belts....god i hope its nothing else!!! Okay i understand that the rms increasing tightens the belts, but why does the sound go away when i hit the cluth? Just trying to understand. Yea wed. im gonna take it to that mechanic...he charged 150...the dealer wanted 890.....i told him to stick his finger is his ass!

thanks man. I really hate big wings, but the stock turbo wing really suits the curves of the spyder with the top down and the roll bar. It has to be installed with new holes etc being drilled. Its pretty heavy you know, the trunk's pneumatic shocks cant take the laod and slam shut like crazy when you close it.

My car is squeeking like a lil' beeyotch. It's sooooooo embarassing. I've tightened the belts and it only made it worst. Sounds like the powersteering pump. I think the bearings for the pulley has gone bad or sumthin'.
It use to do it when the engine was cold and would disappear after I drove my car on the freeway. Recently, it started getting worst and now won't go away.
I know that it's not the belts, it has to be the powersteering pump. When i'm at a stop you can hear the powersteering pump squeeking and also making a weird noise (like blowing into a glass bottle).
Has anyone had this problem?
Should I replace the powersteering pump or could I pull the pulley off and lube the bearings?
Any help would be appreciated!

Could it possibly be the tensioners? I know what you are saying about it sounding like the powersteering pump is bad. Seabring I just drove (looks just like mine on the inside... almost) had the same problem, but no steering problems. A friend of mine said it was the tensioner.

You think there's a possibility that it's the tensioner?
My steering does have more play than when i first bought it. I've had my car for about a 1 1/2 months now.
Any ideas on what I should do?

Well, I don't want to tell you wrong, cause there's plenty more people on this forum who know way more than me. If it is the tensioner (on the Seabring) it costs around $150 for the part. Usually if its your power stearing pump you notice the sound more when you stear. If I'm wrong, I'm open to some serious constructive critisism.

if your pump is noisy check the fluid.

I already checked the steering fluid, and it's full.
The squeeking sound sounds like the powersteering pump's pulley has no lube for it to spin.
Why would you think it would be the tensioner?
Was the sound that your friend had with his Seabring like the sound I explained?

Yeah, what you're saying sounds like what the seabring is doing, but to be safe, I would take it to someone who could diagnose what it is. Being its obvious there's something wrong with it, I would take it to a local (TRUSTED) shop and have them give you an estimate to fix whatever the problem is. By that, you can either have them fix it or do it yourself. If I can't figure out a problem I always have someone else tell me what's wrong. Then I know whether or not I want to mess with it.
