Air Intake/air Flow????????

I have a 99 4x4 ext cab 4L
I have been messing around with my truck for some time and I am always trying to fabricate. inorder to save $$$$$$
Here's my question????
I was thinking about creating a system inorder to recieve more air flowing into my airbox, but before I begin "" I want to know or if anyone knows if this would be a waste of time???""
I was going to use 3' pvc tubing running from my two fog light entries, since, I have my lights located eslewhere.
I was going to use a Y configuration and have the air flow directly into the port of the airbox adaptor.
I was going to set it up so, that I would have extra filtration systems as well, so no extra debri would pour into the box itself.
I was also going to set it up for rainy condidtions. I could close the ports so the extra water would NOT get sucked up.
Of course I would make the system so it would not be visible, but back to my question???
Is this system of extra air a waste of time?
Will the extra air help with overall performance?
Will this extra flow of air do more harm than good?
All comments are welcome..
Thanks.

YOU CAN DO AS I DID AND YOU WILL SEE A GREAT DIFFERENCE IN THE WAY YOUR TRUCK RUNS AND INCREASED GAS MILAGE, JUST ADD A K&N FILTER, IT DOES WONDERS FOR THE AIR INTAKE AND BOOST PERFORMANCE.

I already have the K&N filter, but I was more worried about if adding my custom air flow system would harm anything?
Really I dont want to spend the $$ to purchase the materials, then find out it was a waste of time, because it does nothing.
I'd rather spend $ 40 v.s $200+ for the the same effect.

yea, i made a intake with 3 inch exhaut tubing, and it works damn good, but i made it run all the way to the ground almost and put a shiled in front to keep water from geeting sucked up in the filter, but i made a sheet metal funnel so air does go around the water shiled and into filter for a shit load of air flow, it saved me over 200 bucks for ram air and intake, i used K&N cone filter. put on dyno at school and it gained 23 hp with the new intake and all
have fun doing yours man, its always funner when you know you saved moneya nd it works as good or better

Hey, I'm going to make one too, could you please show a pic of your shield system? This parts still seems trickey to me :(
Thanks!
Thanks!

im sorry that i cant send a picture but i can give details, all you do is get some tin sheet metal, you can even use an old coke material, you jst pout it 4 inches in front of filter and make it the shape of filter but kinda wrap it around but only in front and side. it jsut keeps the spray of water from shooting up.

Yeah, wrapping arond except from the back is easy.
I just wanted to make sure CAI still will get a fresh air in this case (esp at high speeds) I mean, when air flows around this shield system at high speed, it will create a high turbulence region around filter. Will it hinder its performance?

no, as long as you keep enough of the filter open, your good, if you feel like your lagging some, cut half an inch fromt he sides, i had to amke a few mods after making this cover, you jsut got to do some test,
