any way it was a 96 gsx 5 speed with 125k miles for 7999. After the dealer jump started the car 3 times I got it started. I noticed a ticking sound when ever I reved it my friend looked at the engine bay and thought it was the turbo not spooling up. then the dealer said the cars abs is messed up and it wont be for sale yet untill next week. So we go there next week the abs is fixed theres no more ticking sound and we get it started up for a test drive. I put it in the clutch and noticed it felt really weird. Now idk if this is because its an older eclipse but my 3g 5 speed rs feels alot diff. It sorta felt spoungy? it didnt stick but I sorta had a pump feeling to it. idk but any way I put it in first and drive it off the gas pedal feels a little hard so I reved it abit more then I usually do in other cars. I got it on the high way and floored it and almost pissed myself because it was so fast. I got it up to around 70mph and lett off. From switching to 2nd I noticed It was near impossible to make fast throws. the clutch wouldnt engage all the way I had to release then press again and really jam it into 2nd. And it kept making a squeeking sound =\. I talked the dude down to liek 6 grand for the car but idk. What could these problems be?

oh yeah also when it was idling it would rev up to 2500rpm then fall to 1000rpm again, and again, and again, and do the same while the clutch was in. it kept on going up adn down up and down

A 96' GSX with that many problems for $6k? I got my 96' GSX with same amount of miles as yours with almost no problems for $4900. I'd definitely try to talk that dealer down some, if you can.
Sorry I can't help with your car problems though. I'm sure someone around here can =)

i bought my 96 TSi AWD for $5k. it had 62k original miles when i got it

i have the same idle problem and the only thing i can think it is, is my BOV vents to atmosphere. i never noticed it untill i changed it to vent. check and see if the car does.

if you dont know how to tell just look on the BOV and see if there is a big hose that routes from it to the intake piping after the MAF.

all i could tell you. laugh if i am way of base :p

Nothing seems TOO out of the ordinary with your test drive. In stock trim, the clutches are quite soft, the lifters are probably original thus the ticking, and idle surge isn't a "problem" as much as an annoyance.

I would still try to get him down to the 5k range.

Agreed. 96Tsi got one hell of a deal if his 96 tsi awd only cost him $5k with 62k original miles. I wouldn't wait to hold out for something like that. I bought my 96 Tsi Awd for $6700 with 75k...I would say $6000 for a 96 with 125,000 miles is a bit steep. Have you checked the DSMtuner.com classifieds yet http://www.dsmtuner.com/classifieds?

What kind of condition is the rest of the car in? Any aftermarket parts? Any kind of dealer warranty?

since a mention on my car again..

i bought it for 5k with a few problems, after completion of all the repairs Id say i totalled out $6k . still a very good deal i think.

the main reason i think the guy sold it for so cheap was there was a gasket leak on the BOV and he might have thought it was a nasty turbo surge and he was about to blow it. 5 minutes and some JBWeld took care of that.

The other main problem with the car is the electrical is a bit "goofy". electronics in the car work at random and then hitting a bump turned it off. that shouldnt be more than a lead wire tapping out sommers in the car with little or no repair cost.

done ranting now :)

idleing issues could be a hacked maf or something misc with the throttle .... play with the biss if he'll let you... just takes a lil screwdriver and its right on the t-body... adjust it just a lil left and right and you should be able to smooth out the idle just by listening to it... but as far as what the prob is? would have to hook something up to it and see why its getting to much air.

ticking is more difficult...

and btw .. 6k is bs... look on the net... cars.com and autotrader.com you can find a 95-96 gsx with 110k or less miles for under 5k... with no issues

lol thanks guys, but thing sdidnt work out that well. THe car hasnt been cleaned up at all I mean I found a used condom when I pulled the seat up.=\. Also my mom was wtih me and as soon as we were able to find the owner of the dealership who spoke english and not spanish he wasnt to helpfull. HIs firm price was 7 grand for financing. 6500 through bank/cashed. Heh the engine bay looked lik esomeome threw a pile of dirt on it. and the sunroof didnt work. I lifted up the arm rest and there were cigerrate buds in it. My mother proceeded to say "hell no Im not paying for this shit "(shes paying for half) as we left the dealership =\.

car problems + High price= What mom said
Finding condom in the backseat of an eclipse.....priceless.......for anything else there are other eclipses.

also from my experience on a used car lot a car can be bought cash for just about half of what the price is un-financed
