i have a few friends with turbo'd cars and what they do to make there bov louder is i believe unplug the tubing that connects to the bov and stuff it, but where the tube use to be on the bov now is open, alot of people r doing that now and i was just wondering if that can actually cause problems to the car or is it safe, and is there a name for this??? does anybody know of a really good sounding bov for a 93-98 tt supra, im looking for something obviously louder than the stock one for a stock supra but @ the same time something with the pssshhhh sound like the greddy bov on most cars(dont know if it would sound the same on a tt supra, thanks!!!

why not just buy a aftermarket BOV? that's what I did. I got the blitz BOV but I would go with the HKS, sounds better to me but it's all baste on oppinion.

It makes a high piched whistle sound when pressure is released, it sounds nice, you just have to hear it

HKS is a super sequential with a changeable pitch piece. Stock HKS has a high pitch whistle.. you can change the center piece to get a whoosh sound.

You can get the HKS GT BOV which has the whoosh but its designed for larger single or twin turbo upgrades.

i just recently went to a drift show and some guys had HKS and it kinda flutters as it blows off with that high pitch sound it sounds like a ball bearing turbo kinda.

yes its been a while but in reply to ur bov question on removin the hose from the bov to the intake pipe to make the bov louder, its actually perfectly fine , well in the jap model supras neway as it doenst effect the air intake sensor as long as u close up the opening on the intake pipe, i dont see how the american models supras would b effected either

The US-spec supra tt's OEM fuel management is mass-air metered, so if you use a blow off valve that vents to the atmosphere instead of recirculating back into the intake tract then you will run very rich while the car is blowing-off and can even stumble or stall out if you make the blow off valve release hard then put the car in neutral. This happens because the mass air sensor has already told the ECU that the air you blow-off to the atmoshere is going into the motor, so the ECU gives it a lot of fuel to compensate. When you blow off this excess fuel makes the car run WAY too rich and stumble or cause the car to break up for a second after you shift in extreme cases.
The HKS SSBOV is not too bad about this though, as it has dual pull-type relief valves; one for lower psi levels and a larger valve for releasing higher boost. the first small valve is the one that makes the fluttering sound at very low psi levels/part throttle, while the 2nd one pushes out enough air through the interchangeable fins that it makes a 'whistle' instead of a 'whoosh.' You can solve this problem by getting rid of the mass air meter by converting the car to MAP sensor based/speed density metering like the HKS VPC or the new MAP-ECU (which we have installed and tuned several of these on Supra single turbos, and they are GREAT for the money!) I would recommend staying with the stock recirculated BOV on ANY mass air meter car until you convert to speed desity, but many people do run aftermarket bov's anyway with no ill side effects other than having your plugs foul quicker and possible excess carbon build up.
Japanese Supras are already metered off the MAP sensor and IAT sensor, so they can run open bov's with no running rich.
