Increasing gas mileage....is it possible?

I have a 04 2500 w/the 6.0ltr, (4x4 crew sb). Nice truck, just hate the mileage. I'm getting 14-15mpg regardless of speed/driving conditions. Any suggestions on increasing this?

I'm thinking about starting with the following, but don't know if I'd be wasting my time and money.

- Tonneau cover
- Computer programmer
- K&N air filter

I'm not necessarily looking for more power, just better fuel economy. Thanks for any suggestions.

Also, what about all these "gadgets" you see on tv and the net - tornado, clip-on ionizer thing, etc....do they work?

what kind of tires??? rising tire pressure can hel p a little...tire brand can also have an effect
how miles on the truck...anywhere near 30k..try intake induction cleaning

Wow my 04 ext cab with bed cover has 11,000 miles & the best it has got is 12mpg driving easy!

nothing personal guys but your driveing a truck, and a real one at that, all your ideas will help tho.
raising tire presure can be dangerous stick with recomended pres. and try a set of michelins, in winter my wife and i both drive trucks uo here, 94 burban 4x4, and f150 4x4, never checked mileage, these are trucks they aren't made for mileage they are made to haul cargo and people, as the guys at your local parts store about those intake gadgets, they tell me they work but never tried them, milage is not on the top of my list of reasons i drive these vehicles, dealers say this truck should get so much milage but i have never seen one do it, one thing you can try tho is changing differential fluids, both of them, to a synthetic,

1) Keep it under 60 mph as much as possible.
2) Only use 4 wheel drive when you really need it.
3) Keep it in overdrive as much as possible/avoid accelerating quickly.
4) K&N Cold Air Intakes or other Cold Air Intake kits help.
5) Keep it tuned up well. Things like clean plugs, good wires, fluid
changes, etc. all make a good bit of difference.
6) Keep the fuel system clean with injector cleaner and new fuel filters.
7) The tonneau cover should help.
8) Only use the A/C when you really need it. I was reading somewhere
that it's more fuel efficient to use the A/C on the highway and roll
your windows down when you are stuck in traffic.

Other than that, you just have to live with the fact that you are driving something that was built with power, and strength in mind with fuel economy as a second thought.

wait, you have a 6.0L and are complaining about 15mpg!!! damn im lucky to get 10. Air intake is good coupled with a high flow muffler, not a loud as tin box and cuz mine is kinda loud i tend to rip on it a lot. Tonneau is a good idea for less air resistance, or just put the tailgate down. programmer make more power, and more power usually always means more gas burned and those tornados are worthless. Change oil every 3-5K miles and use FI cleaner once a month.

I'm converting my 7.4 to run on LPG (propane) with a dual injection system, its pretty complex to do it on this engine because the injectors are inside, but you can take the LPG down through the air intake in a small tube and then your right where you want to be.

I can get LPG half the price of gas so its going to mean a big saving. Probably a bit extreme for most people though, got a 44 gallon propane tank in the bed so loads of range + gas tank = at least 700miles.

With a gear vendors overdrive people are getting 8 miles per gal. more.
For 2300.00 installed I might get one for my 2500 4x4.

i have a slight bit of a pet peave with this sorta thing...it is a truck, big, heavy, powerful what do you expect! if you want something good for mpg get a honda of some type. but for most any V8 engine you most likely will never see 20mpg and the older then truck is the worse it will get. just my $.02
