96 Premium Sound question

I am new to this forum, so nice to meet everyone! As for my question..

I just bought a like new 1996 Cougar (w/ 35,000 miles) with a V8 and a lot of the higher-end optional components. I am extremely pleased with this car so far :grinno: Anyways, I am adding a decent cd player (200w) later today and I wasn't sure whether or not to purchase new speakers.

This specific Cougar came with the premium sound package, w/o a cd player. My fears are, being an music nerd, that once I get my nice cd player installed, the speakers won't provide nearly as much sound as I wish to hear. Not particularly volume, but sound, clear highs and lows.

Any advice would be greatly appreciatted, I've searched google for about 2-3 hours about this already :screwy:

I have a 99 Cougar with premium sound package, no problems here. Only speaker that is not stock is the sub in the trunk. :D

Edit: also have Kenwood deck (200X4)

may want to check out This Site (www.cardomain.com), or This site (www.sounddomain.com) as well.

The premium sound found in the mn12s ain't that great. for it's day, for a factory system, it's pretty good, but a nice set of aftermarket speakers will be your best bet.

only problem is that you have to run all new speaker lines from the headunit to the speakers. the way the premium sound worked, was that all wire ran to the amp in the trunk, and then distributed out to the speakers.
