98 chevy blazer ABS no Speedometer and will not shift out of 1st gear

This problem only hapens once in a while and from a stop. What could it be so I don't spend $$$ at the garage ?

If you can get the codes read somewhere (AutoZone does it for free), then I think you'll fin the ABS light is on due to intermittent vehicle speed sensor signal missing.
Because all these things are dependant on vehicle speed input, I's start there by replacing the vehicle speed sensor at the rear of the transfer case. Hope this helps.
