i think the SRT-4 is dodges lame attempt to compete with the EVO.... which is pathetic since SRT-4 is using the EVO VIII engine..

06-14-2004, 11:40 PM
i dont think srt-4 uses evo 8 engine... i only know they use the same turbo as the evo 8 (16g) .. i am 99.99% sure but still i may be wrong :D

i was told that dodge is using the entire powerplant, not just their turbo, but i may be wrong :D

I don't see how or why Dodge and Mitsubishi would share an engine for the EvoVIII and SRT-4. Probably a false rumor going around. It certainly does seem to be Dodge's attempt to answer the WRX and EVO, but without the awd. Give me a 2g eclipse over these bug-like cars any day of the week!

the srt uses a mitubishi turbo...im pretty sure they are not the same engines. My buddy has an srt with stage 1, NX intercooler spary, intake, boost controller. They are not slow cars. An evo will take them off the line but down the freewa evos are gutless. The srt has no problem taking them down the freeway. I think that your GSX with those upgrades should be able to beat a stock SRT no problem. off the line and in the long run...their wheel hop sucks unless they have suspension, and engine mounts. my .02

I will reiterate what was said above (joe mattews?), with the stock turbo you will have a hard time keeping up in a quarter mile, yes even from a stop. The best time I Could do on pump gas was 14.2, and 13.7 on race gas. Not many people have done much better. The SRTs are running damn quick stock, and with light mods are running low 13s. Tons of them at my local track in the 13s. Whats stock, mid 13s?

Te srt uses a 2.4 liter motor, with a 16g that has a pretty small exhaust side. I believe its like the PT cruise, where the turbo is part of the exhaust manifold, but i could be wrong. Havent looked at one since last year.

"then i can run 12s and eat his ass"

Gross man, haha. But with what you have now you can win in the long run easy. Those SRT-4's are freakin quick though so make sure you got a good launch.

C'mon, don't I get any credit around here? :p What can I say, except that Kevin is growing closer and closer to having the wealth of racing knowledge which I already posess.

SRT4 does NOT use the same engine... but it is a 16g turbo.

i think you would get into hight 12's with a 16g personally i go with a 20g' .68a/r or something around there.. but have fun and i hope you have your supporting mods down..

umm.... i dont wanna deal with a 20g i like the fact taht the big 16g is a bolt on i have heard that the 20g needs a custom mani and i dont have the time to make that... or have it made... so a 16g will get me in the 12s and that is what i want... i jsut wanna be able to beat a WRX with mods

LandoAWD

A 16g will be fine for your goals, but you "heard" wrong about a 20g.

20g and 16g both aren't bolton. SBR makes a bolton 16g AND a bolton 20g, but it costs extra. They need an install kit, but they certainly do not need a custom manifold. Whoever told you that is dumb.

98GSX
06-15-2004, 10:18 PM
so a 20g and an install kit and 720s will work?

JoeWagon
06-15-2004, 11:14 PM
A turbo and any injectors 'work', but yes 720's are probably plenty for any 20g.

The 16g and 20g are always bolt on, if by bolt on you mean will match the manifold and O2 housing. The difference with the SBR "bolt on" 20g for a 2g is that the outlet is setup likje stock so you can use it with your stock intercooler. Which I think is suicide anway and wouldnt waste my time with it. Even with a 16g you will want a FMIC to make the most of it.

EclipseRST
06-16-2004, 03:33 AM
Yes Kevin you are right... it is the PT Cruiser motor! personally i think they are kind of weak, but i dont think just those mods will make you faster than him... the new '04s are suppose to be able to run 13.9-14.1 stock with a pro driver, and on your list of mods i dont see a boost controller or fuel controller so i think i would take you!

How about....the girl in gstclips's sig running away vs. me running toward her...

you forgot to put that in there!!!

but anyways do you have any gauges to monitor? its not goin to make you win but its good to know what your running for boost!!! do you have an upgraded intake pipe? well if you have all that i'm sure you can probably take him then!

98GSX
06-16-2004, 01:29 PM
intake pipe..... i have a 3in downpipe lol... whats an intake pipe?

95eclipse-gsx
06-16-2004, 01:51 PM
i guess he means the upper intercooler pipe as the intake pipe :) and by the way... why did u steal my picture from my signature :slap:

LandoAWD
06-16-2004, 01:54 PM
Guys, guys, guys...the intake pipe is the pipe going from your MAS to your turbo.

06-16-2004, 01:56 PM
thats wat i meant :D but wait that is called the air intake system rite... but before he does everything that should be first mod , thats why i assumed that he already has it :banghead:

The SR-T's 1/4 is 14.2 @102mph. 0-60 is 5.9. But ya know the times will always vary. The SR-T has the EVO VIII engine in it?? Since the EVO VIII has the eclipse engine in it (4G63), then if you're right then the SR-T and the GSX have the exact same motor.

JoeWagon
06-16-2004, 07:43 PM
No, they are different engines. Mitsubishi and Dodge DO NOT have a secret engine fly market. EVO AND SRT-4 DONT HAVE THE SAME ENGINE. People said this already.

I realize that damnit, that's what I was trying to get across. I just didn't think that people realized that the Eclipse motor has been in use for around 13 years now and its still being used today in the EVO 8. And no one has said that they don't have the same motor, they said that they were "99% sure" etc.

The reason I posted the SR-T's times is because someone said its 1/4 was mid 13s, but it's actually ~.8 sec less than a GSX.

I raced a SRT-4 with an upgraded exhaust and wastegate and I drive a 2001 Eclipse GT(pretty much stock), We raced 4m a stop and I was ahead until 2nd gear lol then that thing was in 3rd gear and it was pulling more and more each gear. There was no use trying. That thing was fast. I ran my best time at speed world motorplex in AZ, a 14.7 @92mph I wouldnt mind having an SRT-4

You are absolutely right, the SRT-4 is using the same turbo but the car till sucks the GSX should be b/c of its AWD superiority!

98GSX
06-28-2004, 12:52 AM
the srt has a very strong 3rd gear and thas it... if all the gears were that strong maybe it would be worth something...
