I have been reading these forums for quite awhile now. I finally decided to make a username because I will be getting a car in about one year. This is my situation.. I struck a deal with my parents, to shorten it up, they are going to give me 5k for a car, and whatever money I can save up. I got a job this summer and I’m working long weeks to get that cash flow. I have researched a lot, and came to the conclusion that i either want to get a 99-00 civic Si, or get a crx and drop a b16a2 or b18c1 (depending on how much money i have) in it. My long-term goals for both of those cars are to eventually boost them. How do you think i should spend my money? By the way, I am currently driving my sister's 1998 jetta gl (manual), which is slow as anything.

5K isn't alot of money to spend. either buy a 99-00 (if you can find one in that price range) or a crx and keep it stock until you have the money to upgrade.

I will expect to have around 8k next year.

Hmm, a decent 99-00 is gonna cost a big chunk of your money, so even if you bought it you wouldn't be able to do too much to it. I'd try to find a CRX, and then you can plan more mods for it from the money you'd save.

99-00 Civics are easy to find for decent prices.. you just have to know where to look.

Before you buy any car, just think about how you'll be using it. CRX's are fine if it's JUST going to be you and you're just going to be thinking about going from place to place, and racing (legally) on the weekends... but if you've got a lot of friends, or family you might end up carting around, you'll probably want to go with the Civic.

Keep on rocking out in an older car. Thats my plan. I love it. You couldn't get me to buy an EK and deal with it.

Some of us like EK's though
I'm looking around for an HX, myself... if I can find one for a good price... to save on these rediculous gas prices, and cart family members around.

It is easer to make a CRX go fast with 8k. if you buy a 99-00 Si you will use most of your money on just getting it imo.

oh yeah and welcome to the fourms

I would take that 8k and buy a crx hf in good condition. You could prolly drop in a b18b, build it, and boost it for less than 8k.

I agree. It's not that I don't like EG's or EK's, it's just that there's something about the 4g's that no other gen civic will top. Maybe it's the CRX. It's a timeless piece. Or maybe the 4g hatch. Honestly....people ask me....if you could buy any car in the world what would it be? I say, a fully restored JDM CRX. There like wut?...why? But, they'll never understand. It's the same way with most of my friends. They (mostly their parents) spend 10k on a newer car for them and I think to myself...why would you do that...just buy a CRX and drop the other 8k into it!

Even if you dont save any money, and you buy a CRX with the 5000 you would still have enough money left over to do the B16 swap, So i would consider that, and if you have 8000 you could buy crx(1500-2500) do B16 engine swap(1500-2000), then Turbo it(800-3000 depending on what you want). So i would prolly go with the CRX, even though i like the 99-00 si.

Thanks everyone for your input. I am leaning more towards the crx with the b16a motor swap. Its cheaper, and faster, and I will have money left over for mods. My friend has a crx HF with a b16a motor swap, and i really liked that. I would want to get the Si not the HF, because of the upgraded options. I figure i will spend at the most, 3k on the crx, and 3k on the motor (including installation), then i will have around 2k to spend on mods (i.e turbo kit). The 99-00 Si will be too expensive.

moonroof owns you!

i'd build and boost SOHC cause it's cheaper and easier.. and can still make the same hp
