'92 cup holder fix? (doesn't retract)

Hey fellas.

I am gettings sick of the cupholder in my 92 not retracting, or just popping out over rough roads, etc. Is there any fix this, or do I just need to find another one (less worn) in a junk yard? How do I get my current cup holder assembly out?

Thanks guys.

You need to remove the lower console assembly. Not so difficult - screws at side, front and rear. Then by getting the seats and the gear shift in the right spot, it lifts out. You can then get to the the cupholder assembly (and, at the same time, clean up everything else!)

Thanks for the reply! So I need to take the console around the shifter out first before I can get to the cupholder? I guess the cupholder is just screwed in too? Sorry for the likely simple questions.

You are right, there is no telling what 12.5 years worth of funk is underneath there!

I guess I'll just take one from a wrecked 90-93 accord with the fewest miles on it (less wear on the cupholder mechanism).

Thanks again.

The cupholder is attached to the console, and it all comes out in one piece. It'll be obvious when you try it.

If the one you get from the junkyard is like mine ('83) it'll be fine -- the cupholder stays out almost all the time (unless I have to mop up spilled tea!)

AArgh! - fat fingers - mine's a '93, not '83!
