:bandit: That's right! Test drive one and you'll find out how fast they really are.

they are all front wheel drive. even though it has a live axle in the rear. its still a front wheel drive car.

oooops i mean dead axle. hahah silly me. or should've i have said multi link rear beam axle. i really hate that design. why did they get ride of its fully independent for a solid beam in the rear after 3rd gen?

This is a question for the people that own or have test driven a '02 Max. I read in a magazine like Car and Driver that the Altima is faster than the maxima to 60 and in the 1/4 mile. Say it aint so!:(
By the way I also wish that the Maxima still had four wheel independent suspension. My dad had a third gen and from what I remeber that car handled a lot better that his next car(a '96 maxima se that is now mine wooohhoooo). hope fully the fools at nissan will come back to their senses and return to the independent, but I doubt it.

yah, i wish it`s indipendent too.....n e wayz......i checked out the specs
of the altima and the maxima.....the altima is only 30lbs or so lighter thatn the max....also 15 horses less, and lost 1 speed of tranny to the max, which the max has 6 speed........so it all depends on the driver... i say the max will definately be faster than the alt....:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

honestly...even with the beam in the rear, with proper suspension tuning(springs, shocks, sway bar, sturt bars...bushings maybe..), Maxima can handle just as good as other cars(similar price bracket please!)...Motor Trend ran a comparison test with a 98 Maxima vs. V6 Camry vs. Oldsmoblie Intrigue(all with independent rear except for Maxima)..
and guess what? Maxima won every single performance category..
Maxima Camry Intrigue
0-60 7.1 7.7 7.7
1/4mile 15.5 15.8 15.8
Handling(g) 0.83 0.80 0.79
Slalom(mph) 65.9 64.9 63.9
